Today i'm a hero.

Excellent work. No I haven't saved anyone, but if the chance comes, I will.

Nice work! It's always good to help people and save them from danger!

Remember the SIRE campaign: "The maatschappij - dat ben jij!". ??

An hour ago i walked along an Amsterdam canal, saw two kids (both orange hair, about 7 years old), playing. Boy learns sister riding a bicycle. I walked through, hear a shout, look back, girl drives with bike in canal, boy jumps with her in canal. Wow, they are playing wild, i thought, and walked on. But, a bit unrest in my heart, can they swim? Further a woman began to shout: kids in the water. I hesitate, then walk, run back. Oh my God, they are holding eachother thight, heads becoming very red. Throw out my jacket, jump in the dirty canal, swim to them (about 5 meters from quayside). Get them both, then swim to the quay, its heavy, have no breath to shout for help. Then a man appeared above the quay, and helps me to get the children on the quay.

OK that's it. I'm rather unsociable (and hate telling a long story), so as soon as possible i run home, washed myself, wash my clothed, and here i'm telling my story.

Have you experienced something like this in your life?

EDIT: i don't really consider myself a hero, my life wasn't in danger, i only gave myself a wet suit
I have helped people and saved them from distress. But never such as this.

Well done angeleyes! This must feel great! To prevent people
from death is the ultimate help. Very well done!!!

Visit the father and take the praise. They need to share their appreciation more than you need to hide. Should be good for you all! Forget your fears, accept your praise, and help them to celebrate the survival of this famalies children.

Again Well Done! angeleyes!!!

Good job angleyes, nice one! A sign of love the brother jumped in after her, but not all that helpful when he couldnt swim...

A car's engine exploded as it passed my mates house a few years back. I ran out and turned the motor off and got the guy (who was in shock) to put the hand break on and get out. He was just sitting there watching flames shoot out of the bonnet. Since the petrol tank didnt explode I didnt really save him from anything worse than a bit of smoke.

You should be very proud of yourself angeleyes. You did a great thing. :goodjob:

Nice story Jaws. :) I have a coleague like that - Never let go of the cigarette no matter what.

I don't think i ever saved anyone's life like that.

Well, when i was a kid we swarmed this guy who wanted to beat the neighbourhood dog with a club thing.

Thanks buddy. :)

Yes, very good job angeleyes

for all of my training and ability in that whole life-saving field, I haven't had the opportunity (something I should be thankful for, I suppose) to save someone, and here you are a hero. Congrats are definately in order. :goodjob:

I'm not afraid to risk my life to rescue anybody, but i'm afraid to visit the people who are thankfull to me....this could make me crazy (if i weren't it already).
I did not start this thread to present me as a hero, i have already started threads and posted in threads showing myself as someone timid and afraid of people.
Maybe this thread shows the different faces someone can have.

Goodjob dude.

Today, finally, i visited the kids and the parents. I was with a girlfriend, i'm probably too shy to go on my own. They were really nice, and the kids did well.
They invited me for a boattrip this summer. I'm glad i visited them. And its probably good for them too.

If you wonder why i put this on internet, well, i just have to get it off my chest, there are not much people i can talk with.

Nicely done, you might be on the news!

Do you realise what you've given the parents? Or rather: prevented to be taken away from them? It's very likely their biggest wealth you've saved.
