Turkey will destroy the EU - at least in fiction

The idea of Russia attacking the EU (successfully) is ridiculous. That book is ridiculous. That guy is an idiot ;)

Suprise, Suprise. ;)

No, just for the young Turks. In other words those, who will run the country in the times of Turkey's accession.

That's only a slightly worse then all turks.

I could just as easily right a book about how the republicans change the USA consitution to enable the president (e.g. G Bush II) to serve for a third term and foreign born citizens to stand (e.g. Arnie the Governator) and end up with Tony Blair as life president.

Where would we be if shallow people did not write litteratue? 80% of the populance wouldnt read at all. Its fun for educated people too, reading those books.

I suppose this means I'm not educated.

I suppose this means I'm not educated.

Absolutely not  . Probably just my bad English. What I ment was that that most people enjoy this kind of easy litterature more than books which are raised to the skies by litterature critics. Id much rather read a terry Pratchett novel than something by a Nobel prize winner :p .

Ah, i accept that i over-reacted. However such popular literature retards any development of more serious and thought-provoking one.

This is though-provoking. Unfortunately I don't like the thoughts it provokes ;)

It abuse the nationalist frustration of Turks and gives them a feeling they're the strong ones, not those puny candidates for EU membership.

No, chances are, they're gonna end up being the biggest EU neighbour. :D

I don't know about "puny". Chances are, they're gonna end up being the biggest EU country.

That's how they see it. They think they're the poor victims of EU racism and arrogance.

Clancy is also an idiot, and his books sell very well too. Nothing new here.

That was my first thought too, this guy seems to be Turkey's answer to Tom Clancy. The war scenario the he describes is ridiculous, of course. But the fact that this nonsense appeals to so many young Turks is both illuminating and a bit alarming.

I believe the United States would get involved to help those who helped us in Iraq. DEFINITELY NOT FRANCE and I don't think Germany.

I think you are mistaken there. Whatever your personal sentiments may be, it would be contrary to US interests to allow liberal and democratic countries like Germany and France to be overun. Not that this is even remotely likely.

<Edit - I do realize that in the book they have both become fascist -- also highly unlikely IMHO.>

That's the sad thing.
