Turkey will destroy the EU - at least in fiction

and do you all really think we 'Young Turks' read this with great enthusiasm and belief of it being real :)

Its just a book, aimed at creating a fantasy world where Turkey is in power all over the world to make the author some money. We don't take it seriously, and we don't want to destroy europe or anything heh.

Turkey is a country with a huge army atm and unfortunatlely a large amount of the budget is still being spent on arms (this is one of the things the EU are trying to limit), but yes in no way is it in any position to take over europe, and no way is there such an intention :)

We 'young turks' want to see our country in the EU to be recognised as a modern country with a western tendence that's all, we are a secular country which has come a LONG way over the many decades and well... we are a modern democratic government, and is it really our fault to want to forge alliances and common interests with the other democratic powers of the world?

We are developing, albeit at a steady rate, but we are, and i honestly don't see why there is such hate for us. Most of the cliche's and sterotypes of typical Turkish people portrayed to you aren't even real.

So please do realise that we aren't some huge warmonging country that has interests in nuking (lol) western countries and taking over capital cities all over europe ;) and also realise we aren't undeveloped people who ride camels and live in tents :/

Precisely i was reading an article about NATO south flank. In fact Turkey army is the biggest in the region but its rather weak compared to most european armies. His land forces are outdated (they still use the m60 as main tank) and while numerous in manpower (about 350,000 men) its formed by conscript soldiers almost totally. His air forces (air defenses and aircrafts) are mostly obsolete and his navy is small. We could call it a giant with feet of clay.

We were working very hard to make our way to the EU. We had to suffer compromises we didn't like, as well as the Western European countries. And we've never written a novel about attacking the block we wanted to enter.

From the Turkey's behaviour, I've got an impression it doesn't really want to make compromises. That's pretty bad, because Europe is about compromises, and these are sometimes very painfull.

The Turkich army is the biggest in Europe i think (mennumber).

But Turkey can't be part of Europe. Well, Istanbul, Ankara..these are modern cities, but the others ? And the religion is different. Turks are muslims. And actually Turkey is in Asia.

I can say the same for Bulgaria ;) It's just a matter of your point of view.

Bad for you ;)

You said Turkey can't be part of Europe because of religion. The Bulgaria is orthodox, isn't it?

Yes, but this is christianity too.(the 'true' christianty, but let's don't start this disscusission here). Aren't there in Europe chatolics and protestants ?

Last I heard, the Bulgar countryside isn't terribly modernistic either.

It is not, but it isn't so bad, too.Although some villgaes are very modern, esspecialy on the seaside.

Well, they are. But quite frankly, the orthodox christianity is much more different. Not that I care, I am an atheist so these petty religious squabbles leave me undisturbed.

Western Turkey is less than 1/10 of Turkey. And actually as I said Turkey is in Asia. Why don't EU accept India for a member ;)

More atheists than either, these days, I'd believe.
