From the Turkey's behaviour, I've got an impression it doesn't really want to make compromises. That's pretty bad, because Europe is about compromises, and these are sometimes very painfull.
well actually we have made quite a lot of comprimises. but you'd have to be living here to understand, in fact some of the reformations have impacted our lifestyles almost immediately.
As for the book, its a democracy and well... its a country with 70 Million people living in it, and with a population that large you are going to get some opinions. I'm just saying the opinions reflected by the book are FAAAAR from real or anything to take seriously.
Does Turkey deserve to join the EU today in its state? as a Turk i'll say no. It doesn't, but we are well on the good way to getting ourselves up to date if you will and are one of the most 'modern' and 'western' countries in the region. We still need to work on our Education levels and common welfare, but i can easily state that we will get there eventually and are taking solid strides. We may or may not make it, that is not something to debate atm, but i can say the reforms that are taken so far have reflected on our lives positively and well... if it goes on like this it is going to help us out anyway.
Hope to see you all in the future under the same union
