To be honest Winner how about you shut the feck up. In regard to Ireland you show that you have no idea what you are talking about. Do you know why there was a no vote? Do you not realise that despite the overwhelming support of the Treaty by the Political parties, Business groups, Unions and farmers that the Irish electorate still said
níl. That suggests that maybe the Irish people have a better idea of what Lisbon was about than you. After all we had a choice, you didnt, dont and
never will. Although, I read today that the Czech Republic is struggling to ratify.
Do not insult the democratic process by saying that the No Vote on Lisbon was because the Irish are stupid, only an imbecile with know knowledge of the facts would suggest that.
By the LAW in Ireland any treaty or agreement which in any way effects the constitution of the Republic of Ireland must be approved by the people If the people do not approve,
as they have on quite a few proposals in the past, then that it the will of the people. And it
must at all times be respected. That each country chooses the way it ratifies the treaties of the EU as is right. Ireland respects the decisions of its neighbours. But in turn our choice must also be respected.
Ireland is a sovereign country, well able to make decisions on its own without being patronised by our European neighbours..
As for a two speed Europe, that would spell the end of the EU. The EU is supposed to be about Equity between nations, not bullied by France and Germany. And you all forget, do you think for a second that the UK would join in a EU based on those sort of rules?
Many of you also have mention the monies received from the EU over the past 30 years. Yes Ireland gained a lot, but also so did Greece, Italy and Portugal to name a few. The difference it that we used the monies wisely so that now we are a net contributor to the EU budget. It was not a hand out from the EU, it was investment, one that means that we are well on our way to on to paying our fair share.
Also you know what really pisses me off about this whole thing? A major reason the treaty fell was because the French couldnt keep there stupid mouths shut about Tax Harmonisation. Honest to God, I swear I thought the French Government where going to suggest brining back the Continental System. Note to France (and good ole Napoleon Sarkozy), Tax rates are a sovereign power, so piss off and work out how to pay your pension deficit with your own money.
We respected the French and Dutch peoples decision about the EU constitution, now our choice must be respected. Otherwise the EU proves to all tat believe it, that it is not a democratic organisation.
By the way I voted
