UK Politics - BoJo and chums

Bojo has sacked Gove according to 1 of my fellow gamers.
It's confirmed.

10 Downing Street must be like the last days in the Fuhrers bunker right now. Our reporters are not asking whether Johnson survives this anymore; they are asking whether he will drag the Tories with him into the abyss when he is ousted.

Oh no, it's the opposite. This moves quickly because the Boris remains.

Meanwhile the UK once again refuses to abide by no less than the 50 resolution by the UN to the effect that it should defend its claim to the Falklands with anything other than ‘we have an army there and we never saw any Argentines there, we swear’ and send anybody at all. They in fact left it to a couple of Falklanders who spoke for only six minutes and left.
It was only this very same year that Johnson ordered military maneouvres and other junta-style big-dick gestures and jeers and… a week? since a confused episode with his Argentine equivalent (equivalent in everything) and this week he doesn't have the time to do anything except ignoring it.

Regardless of your opinion on those sodden islands and who their rightful owner™ is, Boris Johnson missing out a chance to voluntarily insult foreigners and utter random nationalistic remarks is a sign of how worried he is.

Simon Hart, Welsh Secretary, has resigned.
Suella Braverman has said she isn't resigning but that Bojo should go so she may be sacked by morning. Shes also said she will stand for the leadership.
Peter Bone MP has called on Labour to call for a No Confidence vote in the hope that would allow Bojo to triumph in a snap election but labour surprisingly seem unwilling to do the one thing that might stop the Tories tearing themselves apart.

Suella Braverman stand for the leadership? What?

Oh, I'm familiar with the concept alright. A couple of decades of uninterruptedly living in a place where for the past 20 years there's been a Boris Johnson variant in or near power has taught me that nothing is impossible.

Regarding the Braverman candidacy, she is what they call here a ‘piojo resucitado’, i.e. a resurrected head-louse. Not big enough to see, only noticed when they bother someone else, and already dead once.

Labour MP Jess Phillips tweeted that she could think of few people she'd rather stand against in an election. ;)

A former Tory MP has said on Newsnight that Michael Gove was the most competent person remaining in the Cabinet, so it was baffling that he'd been sacked on the worst ever day for mass resignations. (Previously, the record for the most ministerial losses was 13, way back in 1932.) She said it must be an act of revenge for Gove knifing him back in the 2016 leadership election.

In a nut shell this sums up the Johnson premiership. Truth, reality and facts do not matter. All that matters is image, belief, loyalty, soundbites and slogans.

Fortunately the Russian tank army is bogged down in Ukraine.

Michael Gove (the "Govster") has been shrewd enough to get himself sacked rather than resign to avoid an Et Tu Brute.

It does if one wants Boris's vote in being short listed as a candidate for leader of the Conservative Party and next Prime Minister.

The Independent, The Guardian and The Daily Mail seems to be informed, that Johnson will step down as PM today:

"Boris Johnson is set to step down as prime minister today after a fatal onslaught of resignations in protest over his leadership."

The barrage of fresh memes are already out of control.

Zero chance of that imo. The UK Government would be completely paralyzed for months.

Thinking of previous resignations. Is it not normal to stay in their position until a new leader is picked?

There are a number of options.

(a) Boris could resign as Leader and PM, walk out of Number 10 Downing Street,
and let Carrie organise the removal of their personal effects.

(b) Boris could resign as Leader, tell the 1922 committee to initiate the process of electing a new leader,
and announce that he would remain in Number 10 as Prime Minister until the new Leader has been appointed.

I don't really think that it matters which occurs.
