Ultimate Showdown 2.0: Now With More Showdowniness - Handsoff HoI2 AAR

Update XV - August 1, 1938 - October 1, 1938

Good news everyone!

XV-Goodnews.png

So, I was planning on doing an update over the weekend, but I ended up getting a new computer. So I've been spending a lot of time installing things and such. For example, my I've only about 1/3rd of my Steam games installed so far. But as a result of this, I can now run the mod much faster. Before there was probably a 5 second or so lag every time the day changed ingame. But now thats turned into a fraction of a second. So now it won't take me 2 hours to play two months, instead taking about 20 minutes. Which of course means I'll be much more willing to do updates more often!

So anyway, to the update.

In Soviet Sweden, Paradox interacts you! But its just Russia, not Soviet Russia, so that doesn't really make sense. And how does Paradox interact you? I really didn't think that joke out too well. But anyway, long story short, Sweden annexed by Russia.

India finally finishes off Lebanon and Palestine, who had been sitting there in their luxurious villas overlooking the Mediterranean, or something. Not like they were doing much the last few updates. England probably had been coming to join them on vacations instead of conquering Scotland.

In sad news, Deutsch Deutsch Revolution is defeated. Republican Spain occupies Berlin, putting an end to their shenanigans.

71-DDR.png

Down goes Guangxi. This officially means Sinkiang is granted the title of King of the Warlords. Hopefully this will be enough to defend them from the inevitable conquest by either China or India.

70-Guangxi.png

Finally, Italy annexes Bulgaria. The only reason it took them so long is because it turns out they had signed a peace treaty earlier which I forced them to break. Oh Italy, what wacky antics will you get yourself into next?

69-Bulgaria.png

Breakthrough by Spain. They are into Northern Italy, which is of course where a large portion of the Italian IC is. Looks like its the beginning of the end for Italy. Though it does appear that Italy has pushed the Russians back a bit in the Balkans. Italy has crossed the Bosporus, but as a result have met up with Indian forces coming from the east. India has also reached the Suez, and should be crossing into Africa next update. Oh, and England still does nothing.

XV-Europe.png

South Africa can into east Africa. Not much else to report here.

XV-Africa.png

The epic Russo-Indian war continues, with a relative stalemate so far as the two continue to fight over Central Asia and the Caucasus region. Sinkiang, King of the Warlords is now sandwiched between three great powers. Lets see how long that lasts! China continues to push the Japanese out, reducing their holdings in the south, while also starting to push them out of Manchuria. Japan meanwhile has made another landing at Saigon, while Siam is doing their best to hold out against India. And the Philippines are just hanging trying not to be noticed by anyone else and be left alone. Japan has made another landing in Australia, occupying Perth. Anyone reading this AAR from Perth is now officially Japanese. And Japan has taken Singapore and half of Sumatra.

Finally the boring Americas, where nothing much has happened.

Ah yes the idiotic HoI2 AI practice of garrisoning its entire coastline to the detriment of any and every other possible military thing they could be doing

dammit USA

Change Spain or India's colour?

Why in the hell did Iceland build an aircraft carrier?

Because I'm Iceland and I felt like it

You should build a carrier as Nepal

I think I'm going to get 2 points for North America.

Update XVI - October 1, 1938 - December 1, 1938

The Chinese manage to make it all the way up to Magadan the final victory point held by Primorsk. So Japan, who control Vladivostok annexes them. Now Japan and China can fight it out over Manchuria.

68-Primorsk.png

Mighty Guatemala falls to the Americans. Now its up to Honduras to put an end to the Americans warmongering ways. No pressure, Honduras.

67-Guatemala.png

Russia absorbs Siberia. And now its an epic Russo-Indian-Chinese battle across Asia.

66-Siberia.png

India annexes Turkey, meaning Indian forces are now just outside of Istanbul, and could start crossing into Europe very soon.

65-India.png

With the Spanish taking over in northern Italy, the Spanish were finally able to launch an assault against Switzerland. After spending the entire game hiding in their fortified mountains, the Swiss finally fall.

64-Switzerland.png

And finally, say goodbye to the last warlord. Sinkiang is annexed by the Chinese. Tannu Tuva must be feeling rather nervous right now.

63-Sinkiang.png

The Italians are now in a full fledged collapse. The Spanish have taken all of the north, and are now working their way down the peninsula. Could potentially take Rome in the next update. Most of their forces are now in the Balkans, but the Spanish have now moved into Croatia, while Russia is moving into Romania, and the Indians have seized Instanbul. The Spanish had managed to seize a fair amount of Poland from Russia, but the Russians managed to cut those forces off and destroy them. You can see some of the remnants of them in Danzig. The Saudis seem to be holding back the Indians somewhat, though probably just due to a lack of Indian forces in the area.

XVI-Europe.png

The South Africans are really breaking out now, have taken Somalia and moving along the Red Sea coast, and up through Central Africa along the Nile and into the Sahara. No one else seems to really be in a position to stop them.

XVI-Africa.png

India and Russia continue to trade provinces along their border, with no real gains. Though the Russians did manage to get into Afghanistan, though they got cut off there. And now the Chinese are joining the fun in the big war between the great powers in Asia. Japan continues to grow its forces in Southeast Asia, while it seems they are more or less holding off the Chinese in Manchuria and southern China, for now. India are now moving into Siam, and are now just outside of Bangkok. Australia kicked Japan out of Sumatra and Australia, while the Japanese kicked the Australians out of New Guinea.

XVI-EastAsia.png

XVI-Oceania.png

Something actually happened in South America. Argentina, Chile, and Panama all seem to have expanded a little bit. But nothing much else has happened.

XVI-SouthAmerica.png

And North America. United States of Omnomnom is a slow omnomnomer.

XVI-NorthAmerica.png

Do most of the countries have the same starting techs? Wondering if most of the armies are balanced in terms of quality or whether Spain's smaller army is actually worth more than India's. I guess Spain are hoping that Scotland will continue to survive as otherwise they could quickly lose France which would presumably lead to the collapse of the Russian front.

Everyone starts with every tech

So Spain are probably screwed in the long term then. Slightly amusing that Russia in the last screenshot had 30 divisions and 4 HQs, nice build prioritisation by the AI. I'm ignoring the militia and garrisons that have been built.

I wish China would start with some serious action against India, India is blobbing too big. (the same with the US, but who can handle them?)

Well that would require them to cross the Himalayas. Much easier to attack Manchuria.

Update XVII - December 1, 1938 - January 1, 1939

A mini-update here, just to get the months aligned evenly again. Only one country got annexed, Tannu Tuva. So now the only minor nation left in Asia outside of the ones in the southeast is Nepal, who have incredibly held on this entire time in their little mountain fortress.

62-TannuTuva.png

Italy's collapse continues, with the Spanish taking full control of the Italian peninsula and the city of Rome. The Spanish meanwhile continue their eastward advance, taking a bit more land in the Balkans, while also making progress into Poland.

XVII-Europe.png

Ethiopia has responded to South Africa's advance along the coast by severing their lines in several places. Not much action in west and central Africa.

XVII-Africa.png

The Italians are still holding out in northern Turkey against the Indians, while the Russians have advanced further south and into eastern Turkey. The Indians continue to march unopposed through central Asia, with absolutely no Russian soldiers there to resist as they advance right through the middle of Russian territory. The Chinese have gone about as far north as they can go in Siberia, and so now find themselves heading to the west where they have run into a lot of Russians. Japan has launched another invasion of the Australian continent, but like the last couple it will surely be defeated, as they just aren't committing enough resources to it.

XVII-WestAsia.png

XVII-EastAsia.png

XVII-Oceania.png

South America was actually rather interesting. The Argentinians have been busy, taking some Brazilian land before losing it again, as well as taking some provinces in northern Chile. Everyone else was boring. I didn't take a screenshot of North America, as nothing changed in the last month.

Update XVIII - January 1, 1939 - March 1, 1939

Only one country defeated this update. Cameroon annexed Equatorial Africa. I also forgot to edit the screenshot, but thats rather irrelevant. :p

61-Cameroon.png

The Russians and Spanish are keeping a relatively stable border in Poland and Eastern Europe. But Italy continues to give up land. Spanish forces actually managed to seize Greece, though the Italians are slowly taking it back. The Russians continue to try to occupy Romania, but so far the Italians are holding them back. Its really the Italians who have been taking large amounts of land there. The Italians have been kicked out of Asia by the Indians, who are now also moving into Libya.

XVIII-Europe.png

With their defeat of Equatorial Africa, Cameroon now controls large parts of...equatorial Africa. Well, actually north-central Africa, but really, who's keeping track of those things? And South Africa is now pushing the Ethiopians northwards.

XVIII-Africa.png

India is now teal. And I really think it looks a bit odd. Not sure if its because I'm used to it being orange, or because large teal countries just look odd. Either way, Indian forces are now deep into Siberia, while trading off land with Russia in the Caucausus. Nepal continues to troll India. China is cutting up the Japanese holdings in Korea and Manchuria, but still struggle to make gains in southern China. They've also started moving westward into Russian territory. Japan meanwhile still controls half the Australian coast.

XVIII-WestAsia.png

XVIII-EastAsia.png

XVIII-Oceania.png

Here is what South America currently looks like. Still a lot like it did last time. And of course, United States of Omnomnom has done nothing again against Mighty Honduras.
