Hello all newbies and those who are not. I am forming this union because i feel that newbies are never applying for public office and are not taking part in the demogame enough. As a newbie myself (this is only my second demogame, and i joined really late in the last one) i know how newbies feel. I ask newbies and expiercend players to join. All expiernced players will help newbies run for public office and show them how to get more votes and that kinda stuff. There will be a list and just say if you are a newb or oldie and. Then all newbs can look at the list and ask expirnced players what to do. Questions? Just PM me.

Newbs:
RoboPig
Blackheart
LeeT911
mad-bax
cavvie
zyxy
Bertie
Kentharu
SuperNoob
floondi
mr.kingkong
Specialist290

Expirenced players:
Daveshack
Stuck as a mac
MOTH
CivGeneral
classical hero
Strider

I'll join up. I'm fairly new, although I lurked part of the last demogame.

I thought about running for an office, but I have final exams this month, so I thought it best to hold off until next term.

I'll sign on. I consider myself on the cusp of newbie and veteran as I joined up during term 2 of dg5. I am perfect for advising on getting elected as I will not be running for office in term 3 as I will be on vacation in Hawaii for 3 weeks :D Although my wife says that at least one of the condos has wifi access I don't think I'll be doing much civving.

Note to newbies: If you want to get elected in term 3 then right now is the time to do something. Jump right in. You need to be active in discussions and start getting your name out there. Also, check in with some of the office holders and volunteer to be a deputy or department staff member. You can make suggestions and possibly even lead some discussions.

I'll join. I'm a newbie to the demogame, but I've been around this site for a while. :)

I got elected at my first try, and I didn't even self nominate. I suspect this is partly because I have 4000 odd posts and some people know me. But mostly (I hope) its because:-

A) I post a lot
B) I don't just say I like or hate this and that. I make an argument.
C) I try to find different angles to look at things and broaden discussions
D) I always try to answer criticism and do it promptly.
E) My boyish good looks and charm - or writing style at least.

I'll down. I just joined this last week. This is a great place for all types of gamers because of the election periods; people can be as active or as little as they are able and easily shift that availability. Also, this would be a good place for newbies to get acclimated and avoid intimidation with the sheer magnitude of what's going on.

I'll sign up. I joined yesterday, so I guess that makes me a newbie :)

Ill join up as the oldbies.

I have a question for the oldies. if i was to get elected, and had to use the turnchat, would i be posting in the turnchat thread, or is the turnchat held in the chatroom.

I'll join, but I'm an oldie. Now listen here sonny. We should start a different thread for the oldies. It could be like the last attempt but we need to be much active than the last attempt.

The turnchat instruction thread (TCIT) is for all orders for the turnchat. It's there as an organized way for the designated player (DP) to do orders quickly without having the hassle of reading it in the chatroom. The chatroom is a social gathering place and sort of acts as an overseer to the DP while the game is being played. Elected officials can issue new orders in the chatroom when the game is being played if the situation deems it, but it should be done sparingly.

I'm a n00b at the demogame so I'd like very much to be part of this group.

Blackheart makes a good point about the game chat. I've never been there, but I'll bet I've read half-a-hundred chat logs. Those who attend get to know other players very quickly, and may find it easier to get the support of those players when they run for office. M-B's points about posting are also extremely important.

@cavvie: in another thread you mentioned you'd like some suggestions for how to elevate your level of play. I suggest reading the Game of the Month forum. There is some excellent discussion and analysis in those threads, and you can learn tons. You may want to look at some of the Quick Start Saves (or whatever they're called) of some of the tops players and play through some of those. You can learn a lot that way. Cracker's articles on opening moves (in the War Acacemy) are also required reading IMO. Following some of the games in the succession forum is also a good idea. Last, and perhaps best, is you may want to look around for a Training Day Game; sometimes an experienced player will offer one of these. One of the better ones I've seen - and one that taught me a lot - was one that Sirp sponsored some time ago. The link is here.

Edit: I've screwed up the link somehow. It's

So i would have to use the chatroom, during playing time and the thread is simply an overview for the public?

No. Technically the thread is where the final instructions should go. You don't have to be present at the turnchats at all (I rarely am anymore).

i join as a newbie big time first time even coming to the site so please don't get pissed at me if i say dumb things
