Unique Ability Elimination Thread

Bleck, this thread's over. No way Babylon's better than Poland.

Babylon: Ingenuity - 18
Korea: Scholars of the Jade Hall - 20

I would have put Poland at #1, Babylon #2, Korea #3. I wonder if science is actually THAT strong, or if people see boosts to science and assume it's better than everything else. Indirectly, Poland gets some pretty sizable boosts to science through better growth, income, science, war, and other things that will boost their science in the long run.

Babylon: Ingenuity - 14 (-4)
Korea: Scholars of the Jade Hall - 22 (+2)

Both UAs are awesome, so it was a difficult choice. I have played Korea and Babylon on numerous occasions as science domination is my way to go :p

But I will vote for Korea's UA simply because I have had much more consistent games with them. I have never lost with Korea (I'm a King difficulty player), yet I have lost as Babylon several times.

Do I get points for being the last person to vote Poland up? :crazyeye:

The challenge with Poland is quantifying the impact. Korea and Babylon have both been through the ringer. GOTM's, Hall of Fame, even forum shootouts and it helps that they benefit from the most well known (4 cities tradition grow) strategy.

I'm completely open to the idea that Poland is the most flexible civ. I'm even open to the idea that Poland has untapped potential as the best Civ regardless of VC. The problem is it hasn't been through the ringer yet. IIRC, Maya won the big science shootout (pre-BNW) that was initially between Korea and Babylon. Poland could very well have the same potential but I haven't seen anyone tap it yet. Its a new Civ, it could very well stand the test of time, but its too early to call it the new champ.

Babylon: Ingenuity - 10+2 = 12
Korea: Scholars of the Jade Hall - 24 - 4 = 20

Explained both previously as well.

Babylon Ingenuity - 14
Korea Scholars of the Jade Hall - 16

I shouldn't vote anymore since Poland is out but might as well help finish this thread.

Babylon Ingenuity - 10
Korea Scholars of the Jade Hall - 20

Both are really good science Unique Abilities, but Korea's is one that can be used to go tall or wide, can be used in EVERY city, and even somewhat makes up for not having the +50% GS boost. After all, building a science building in the capitol is just like bulbing a great scientist, and they can then use the ones they earn from those buildings to make an Academy... Which has an extra +2 science, as do all great person improvements. When rationalism comes around, they get +4 science per specialist. Great scientists are good, but building a UA entirely around getting more of them isn't a good idea.

Reasons stated before

Babylon Ingenuity - 4
Korea Scholars of the Jade Hall - 18

I'll be the first hater! One more hater and we'll need two Korea votes to close this out!

I just think that Korea comes in a bit later, although both are incredibly strong.

Congrats to Korea, the deserving UA champions! I would personally still put Poland as #1, but I suppose they won the overall civ thread, so we can give the UA thread to the sciencers. Finishing with 22 points is a pretty strong showing (after we add in Talcove's vote), that means it was upvoted between two and three times as often as it was downvoted.
