Hypaspist (Macedon) – 9 (12-3) --- Great unit to upgrade your starting infantry to, but hardly seems worth the trouble to have a unique unit just for that. That’s assuming your starting infantry survives. Otherwise, why build them when you have Hetairoi available?

The only problem I have with them is the inevitably feeling of confliction and sadness I have to work through due to their hardiness, increased damage capacity, and +50% more experience ability. It pains me when I turn my attention away from ranged units to cavalry corps and merge 5 promotion crossbowmen with 4 promotion xbowman because I have too many of them around and don’t want the maintenance cost.

Not to mention these upgrade to knights. Amazing game-changing unit. I'd say it's tied with Pitati Archer for the best UU in Civ6
Hypaspist (Macedon) – 6 (9-3) Not the worst UU, but pretty weak. As far as non-legion Swordsman replacements, I prefer Knogo's Ngao Mbeba for mobility and defense bonuses

Minas Geraes (Brazil) - 20 (23 - 3) There is much to like about this unit, such as it unlocking through the civics tree. However, it does come along quite late in the game, at a point where it doesn't make much of a difference. Battleships get the job done effectively enough.

Viking Longship (Norway/Harald Hardrada) - 10 (9 + 1) I feel like this one is underrated. I get the argument that naval units are less important and more situational than others. Still, I really like the Longship. It enters the game really early, is stronger and faster than the Galley it replaces, has the same production cost, and can do coastal raids (which also lets you pop goodie huts). In addition, it synergizes very well with Norway and Harald's abilities. These ships can be built more quickly, thanks to the production bonus. This helps with the eureka for shipbuilding, which then again will let these ships enter ocean tiles. Finally, when you do send your fleet of Longships to distant shores, they will have the ability to heal in neutral waters. There is a lot to this unit.
I do generally like early game unique units, especially those that replace already useful/necessary units. The Viking Longship does this, and additionally stands out by being able to not just do things better, but do more things than the unit it replaces.
