I'm really not a fan of Naresuan's Elephants, due to the fact that I've never ever found them useful (that is, never been in a situation to find them useful), and one time I got stuck with a pile of them as CS gifts. Keshiks, again, are very solid. Easy to win a quick war with them, and they come at a good time to clear your continent.

The cossack (and cavalry in general) don't seem to be as useful as your alternatives, which are cannons/riflemen. Weak units are typically pulled back by the enemy, so to charge in with a cossack leaves it most likely too far in the enemy territory to get back alive.

The battering ram is just unbelievable. They can easily take cities and you get them so fast. Just give it some support to clear out the units and its good to go.

Sipahi 7 (+1) Unlike Panzers - the extra movement helps much more in this in between era. Being able to hit a near dead unit from afar or attack a unit before it can retreat with the +1 movement is not to be underestimated. Since Lancers have been improved in GK it is a viable raze/finishing unit. Obviously you don't need too many of them with your janissaries around - but they are totally worth building

Tercio 18 (-3) In truth a unit that I am surprised is still here compared to someones about to be elimed/already elimed. It looks cool but the extra production cost is generally not worth it. The mounted bonus is nice though since pikes no longer promote up to the gunpowder line. This is more of a downvote so it doesn't remain so high up.

I'm surprised that the Sipahi are doing so poorly. They're the ultimate strategic pillagers for destroying iron mines, breaking roads, and pillaging farms before entering a city. They're really an interesting unit that creates a lot of strategic opportunities that a bland +4 shields UU doesn't offer. Speaking of bland + shield UUs, the musketeer get a downvote from me.

Cataphract: Byzantium can use these instead of Swordsman, and the tech is on the way to civil service, education, etc.

Mandekalu Cavalry: Horsies are not meant for attacking cities, even if there is no penalty.

Goodbye Panzer, I never cared for this unit. By the time I'm at this stage of the game I'm using a lot of bombers and the tanks are just used to take the last hp of the city.

B-17 is pure awesome sauce. The last person that down-voted them shouldn't count since clearly they've never used these as they referred to them as a fighter even though they're bombers.

Legion : Ability to build roads can be useful in peace times. Extra :c5strength: is also good to delay Steel a bit more longer.

Pictish Warrior : Not a warrior, a spearman! :mad: 20% combat bonus outside territory isn't bad but i prefer other kind of units to attack cities. 50% faith for killing units? You need to kill a lot of them to gain some benefits.

I still don't like tiremes, and Immortal gets a nice attack vs Mounts and healing boost, plus the golden age gives them an even larger attack boost.

Agreed re Pictish Warrior. I won the game with the Celts on emporer and never used these guys.

I love the longbows, Cho Ko Nu and keshik as much as the next guy so I'll send some love to Ship of the Line. Total naval domination with this and it helped me pick off land units one by one.

Why are quinquereme even still here? Early melee ships are worthless, and making them stronger doesn't really make them less worthless. I'm not even sure they can do much on an archipelago map before they become obsolete.

At least dromons can sail along the coast and fire at land units. While not my favorite UU, I'd easily rather have them the quinquereme.

The extra sight and movement isn't much IMO. I rarely build lancers anyway.

The Cho is great. spam them out and units and cities will be pummeled. especially when you upgrade them to gatling guns.

Sea Beggar gets my upvote for the same reason it has in my other posts. I just love the unit. Prize Ships + Supply is amazing.

Atlatist gets my downvote, simply because for 5 straight games I spawned right next to Pacal, and each time he sent a wave of 5-6 atlatists at me around turn 50. Turned them back easily each time, but they just got annoying.

I'll keep downvoting the quinquereme until it's gone, gone, gone; in this case UU= Useless Unit. Even if you were gifted it, you might be better off disbanding it to avoid paying the maintenance.

Compare it with the Sea Beggar, which can sail off forever capturing enemy ships to enhance your navy, and actually has the strength to capture enemy cities on a distant continent.

Love for the landsknecht, pikes are really the go-to foot soldier of gods and kings, way better than longswords, more versatile, no resource-dependence and having two for the price of one is just incredible, combined with the lower army upkeep from Germany's UA and you can field a massive army that just keeps coming.

Sipahi - Lancers suck .. these guys are finally almost gone off this list.

B17 4 (+1) With units, like the muskeeteer, tercio, samurai, etc still left - no reason the B17 should be eliminated yet. The B17 basically acts like a stealth bomber - only much earlier. With stealths being pushed back much further the B17 basically is the game over unit for other civs. Deadly in multi, deadly in single, deadly to everything it touches. Once again - doesn't deserve to be elimed

They are basically mandelaku cavalry and with cavalry made much less useful vs cities the unit is an overglorified remnant of its pre GK days (Somewhat like landsknechts and mohawks now too)

Once again units are being wiped out that people don't use and therefore don't know how to use properly. Which is a shame some units shouldnt be going out this early (Turtle ship and Sipahi). If you don't try them out - how can you judge them - thats the real problem.

Why not down the Mandekalu then.. it's basically a lesser version of the Conquistador. How are Sipahi's comparable to Conquistadors? Conquistadors rip holes in cities during the era they come around, by the time Sipahi's are around they like any lancer unit don't have much utility. Also, wouldn't you say landsknechts are even more powerful now, since G&K? Also, mohawks/swords upgrading into muskets is a nice buff in some ways, for times you didn't manage to secure iron and would have to wait till rifles for an upgrade, leaving you in medieval with units an era-behind.
