utah's thread wasn't the place for this, so I'm moving the discussion to the main forum.

Here is an updated preview of the Japanese Samurai Musketeer...

I've added some civ-colored pants (as requested ;)), and I've also added a civ-colored rim to the hat.

Further suggestions are welcome...

I'm likin' this so far! Great flavor unit!:goodjob:

Well nomather what the guys name is, I think it should just be japanese musket man. :p

Yeah, its not really a samurai, but thats the tenative title. It's probably a peasant rifleman more likely than not. (And its my unit and I dunno) :p

Btw, embryodead, I've shortened the fellow, fattened the legs, arms, and gun.

I think it would be an Ashigaru Rifleman since the Ashigaru made up the bulk of the Japanese Army.

I am sure he appreciates the pants. Nothing quite as em-bare-assing as running off to war without your knickers on. ;)

Well, a samurai is anyone who serves in an army so it could be a samurai, even the peasants became samurai during wars "Ashigaru" they mostly fought with Yari(spears) but later were equipped with Muskets from western traders. (samurai fact 12009)

If you were going to call him something I would say "Ashigaru Musketeer"

The Japanese Rifle man (Which I have been looking for my mod ><) Is after Japan had opened its borders and was trying to westernize. They wore black uniforms with white from the knee down and caps. The were usually armed with a rifle almost as big as them with a bayonet on it. and most had a western style saber (like armies in the civil war) though some used a katana. If you have seen the previews for "the last samurai) the show what I am talking about, that uniform almost went unchanged until the 1920s.

Shiro, I am assuming that you are referring to the uniforms adopted after the Meiji Restoration. As such below?

I'm hoping *fingers crossed* that some cut and paster will take the Rifleman and make a Japanese unit.

This is supposed to be before that but sometime after the Oda Arquebusier using weapons more advanced than the arquebus, but not before breech-loaders.

This unit has a certain bit of fiction in it because the Japanese didn't have such organized musket units, and the forces who fought in the Japanese Civil War were using some weapons that had been brought by the Portuguese... as in the case of Korea when the Americans invaded in 1871. They found one cannon there from the 1300s. So there is a bit of fiction, but no more fictional than the Japanese using armies full of generic musketeers and carbine-weilding cavalry as it would be without this unit.

I'm thinking of making a samurai gunpowder cavalry unit along with this that I may release as a package. This current unit could be done very shortly... I've got to procure some Horse armor that I have lying abouts somewhere that I must find.

(I haven't full moved all of my files into this computer).

Yes, this unit would fill the Musketman role and If we could get a Rifleman like that pictured above, though that looks more turn of the century to me, that would be most excellent.

I thought the Oda Arquebusier was filling the Musketman role?
