The MBT-70 was a 1960s joint German -U.S.-project to develop a new main battle tank using a number of advanced design features, the most ambitious of which was a gun-fired missile.

By the late 1960s the project was well over budget and the Germans withdrew from the effort, developing their Leopard 2 instead. Development continued in the US, but the per-unit cost had risen five times, and in 1971 Congress overrode the Army's objections and the MBT-70's funding was redirected to create the more successful M1 Abrams.

I thought Wyrmshadow made an American T-"something" tank already, but I may be mistaken.

MBT-70 stinks. I dont have anything remotely close to it.

Does it stink because you have nothing close to it, or are you saying it just sucks and the other isn't directly related?

The latter. The whole project was flawed. As if McNamara was in charge of the project.

 True, but it was very inventive, and very ambitious.
And besides, it would be a good unit for the civ world. I mean come, its a tank that can fire missles out of its gun turret. :crazyeye:

A lot of tanks can do or could do that.

However, the MBT-70 was one of the pioneer projects in this specific technology.

One of those pictures kind of looks like you've been to Ft. Knox recently. They have the MBT-70 and another tank that looks similar that one. They were both developed around the same time period. You might of just took those pics from internet sites also.

The problem with the MBT-70 was that there was no central design concept. Its specs were basically "Give us an M-60 only better". And the Shillelagh missile system had already proven problematic on the M-551.
