Unit Request Thread

I have already done a similar unit here which is basically the navy seal with a different rifle and it uses paratrooper animations.

Is it just me or is the unit a little grainy in-game? It might just be the civ 4 graphics don't look as good when in civ 5 (because everything looks different), but is anybody able to make it's texture look a bit more civ5y?

Maybe I am just being picky, but I have looked at all of these and they don't scale any differently than humans when I bring them up in Blender. I am looking for something that is more endomorphic - almost as wide as they are tall. "Puck" from Alpha Flight is a good definition of the body type I would like to find. Maybe I will just have to make the existing dwarves "beefier"....

Hey I'm looking for some industrial era ship graphics, specifically an early torpedo boat (like http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilean_torpedo_gunboat_Almirante_Lynch , not a Higgins boat), and a protected or armored cruiser or pre-dreadnought battleship.

I found and am already using danrell's Dreadnought, but I can't find anything else like what I need.

There are some really excellent units here; great work! I'm especially loving all the regional\national units and modern\great war options.

Something I'm not seeing is ancient/classical era ships, if anyone is so inclined.

In my search for a good asian-looking female knight I came across this website and this other one. I thought I should mention, they might be of help for our incredible artist here, specially if the conversion is smooth (and allowed).

Cheers.

These are .WC3 files, which can be imported - but it is a very clunky process. These units are also very low-poly (even more so than Civ IV units), so unless there is an absolute "gotta have it" unit I am not certain it would be worth the effort involved. I could at least do the conversion into Blender (to the point where someone else can do the actual conversion into CiV) if there is something someone needs from this type of file format, though.

So this is a long shot but...The Han used to use this awesome combination of light infatry and horses with some pretty sweet tactics to create a fast Cavalry unit that was also excellent in defense and sieges. I have no idea what they called them.

The gist is that these guys would dismount when attacked or fighting near a city and use a combination of the Hollow Square and Testudo Formation. Basically creating a square with the infantry around the edges and the mounts in the middle. Think Gladiator, "Hold Fast!". Anyways, really good against opposing cavalry, infantry, and stout against arrows, but would get slaughtered by siege type units...catapults, ballistae...etc.

I created this unit, removing the NO_DEFENSIVE_BONUS "promotion" the horseman recieves, lightening up the combat strength slightly, giving it a weakened modified cover promotion, and making it pretty worthless against siege units.

The issue is that I love the unit and I get pissed that it just acts like a horseman. Anyone feel like creating an animation that allows the infantry (swordsmen) to dismount? You don't have to get all fancy and make the square up...but that would be AWESOME.

Thanks in advance. You guys (and girls) are the best.

I've tried and failed at making it so..

I would like a unit that is simply a flat square box that is very short that can be skinned and reskinned using an image preferably 32x32. It shouldn't have any animations or blank animations.

Note that ww2commander converted "counter" units like you describe.

I don't think he ever posted a completed version of his WW2 mod, so if you can't get a hold of him [EDIT: His last login was today, so that shouldn't be a problem], you can try to figure out if you can get them working from the downloads in these... two... threads where he was (at first unsuccessfully) trying to get them working.

I know these requests are best done with a reference, but I don't have any, but, I need ratlings. Anything and everything ratling related is good. I need many of them, a lot of them, ratlings everywhere!!1! :crazyeye:

By "ratling", what exactly do you mean? Rat-men (which I am working on a pack of)? Rats (which I have already done)?

I'm just converting Skaven (ratmen) from Zlatko's CIV Creatures In War mod... I made the rat unit rather badly because I needed a small, cheap, unit that is really only there to give the enemy headaches... I really can't be taking on more units now, I just thought you might be interested.

Ah, great! I'll probably do my own conversions anyway for WHFB, since I like being in complete control of what the units look like... but I'm glad you've found what you needed.
EDIT: That's not to say that if I saw a beautiful conversion of a Skaven that was exactly the way I intended it I wouldn't use it...;)

Staring to convert sailing ships for those who were after them. Link here to War Galleon.

One thing I stumbled across is hidden units in Civ 5 like the galleon which must have been added by DLC. I wonder what other units there are we could use that I am unaware of.
