"Unit Request Tournament" hosted by utahjazz7

Well, looks like one sci-fi unit made it. All you sci-fiers out there better rally behind the Space Marine, or we'll get another javelin-guy.;) Nothing against him, really, but I would like to see something slightly different than just another guy with a spear or on a horse...

There is already a complete set of Space Marines made though - the Mon Calamari unit is the only new Sci Fi (Star Wars) unit. :)

Oop! I stand corrected. I don't see how I didn't see him. Well then, Sci-fi guys! Stand with your two brothers! Personally I think the Mon Calamari should have priority, because yes there are many Space Marines out there. I'm just a little tired of the flavor units from the ancient times. IMVHO. Like I said before, nothing against you guys...

Mecha-clone? Mecha is for losers! Unless you're on this forum, that is...:D Hard SF is where it's at. Don't judge a book by its cover...not everyone is a "Mecha-clone"

You sure snapped up the obvious bait quickly! You make very particular distinctions between all kinds of guys wearing powered armor, etc. That's fine; they're important distinctions for you. There are lots of us here who make just as fine of distinctions between variously differing "guys with a spear on a horse". Don't denigrate ours & we won't denigrate yours.;)

Hey, my request is in the field.

Thank you! Btw, here's a video of visitors shooting our Pierriére on a museum fair last weekend.

First of all, the Marine was not requested because we need a vanilla Marine, since muffins made that. This one is required because of the props which would allow further creation of dozens of space marine units that we do need.

Sci-fi or not, I refuse to put it in the same basket with some squid xenos scum :p

That's a cool video. I couldn't see in your pictures that the "release mechanism" is trebuchet-like. I had thought it was more like a catapult.

Time got away from me, but I had wanted to ask where the museum fair was going to be held. I was interesting in attending, since I'm in Germany. Did it by chance happen to be anywhere close to Mannheim or Darmstadt, which are the two cities I travel between?

Yay! My request made the cut, as well as a lot of units I've needed. Thanks for doing this utahjazz! (Go Rockets!, I'm from Toledo as well)

I didn't know that there was another forum member active in CivIII C&C from Toledo. Are you from Toledo, or do you still live there?

Grouping Procedure
As I mentioned before, the twenty requests in the tournament were to be divided into four groups of five requests. This was done last night with the aid of a deck of cards. The four groups were represented by the four suits: spades for Group 1, diamonds for Group 2, clubs for Group 3, and hearts for Group 4. Numbering the requests from one through five was done with the cards ace through five. For each request, a card was selected, and the request was placed in its slot; the drawing proceeded in reverse-alphabetical order.

For example, if a request drew the two of clubs, it was assigned to Group 3, request number two.

Groups
Listed below are the groups.

Group 1
Spoiler :
1. T’ang Yóuxiá
2. Witch
3. Indian Chariot
4. Mon Calimari Foot Soldier
5. French Valdean Soldier

Group 2
Spoiler :
1. Pierriere
2. Falcata-Caetra Fighter
3. Spanish Javelinman
4. Rakshasa
5. LOTR War Wain

Group 3
Spoiler :
1. Snowman
2. Space Marine
3. Indian Medieval Horseman
4. Hyaspist
5. Ribauldequin

Group 4

4. Parthian Horse Archer
5. Ninja

Group Stage Begins
The group stage of the tournament is now set to begin. The results of the first day's matchups will be posted tomorrow. As a reminder, during the group stage, when requests face each other, each request will receive a random score between 1 and 6. The request receiving the higher score wins and receives 3 points. In the case of a tie, both requests will receive 1 point. At the end of the group stage, the two requests with the highest number of points in each group will advance to the single-elimination stage of the tournament.

Good luck to all requests!

That was pretty much what I was going to say... Thanks for doing it in a more elegant way than I would have.

My stomach made a little jump when I saw that the dear old mack hypaspist was in the last 20. He's done better than England at the Euro 2008 championships, now the fingers are crossed that it goes further than the companion cavalry did last time around.

Would it be too early to raise accusations of favoritism against Nwoll for the heinous crime of being from the same city as the competition organiser?

Cross post with Utahjazz7 - Hmm, in the same group as the Space Marine? I can see an early exit coming on.

You can raise the accusations if you will, but in the "Selection Criteria" section of the opening post is stated:

Micellaneous
Whatever else leads me to select a request. The above are just to help you make a reques with a good chance of being selected.

Anyone else from Toledo, who wants a unit in the field? I'll just toss another one out. ;)

Are the Vanishing Point free props unsatisfactory, or do you need even more? I thought they gave a pretty good selection? (lightning claws, all sorts of guns, even the Chaos Legions although of an older version :))

P.S. Sorry to get off topic here - I think my request got a tough draw by the way, the 'Group of Death' perhaps!

As to favoritism, I'm happy that each of the Indians is in a separate group - greater chance of at least one advancing to the next round.

Don't complain - the two Steampunk requests were shut out completely. As far as that goes, any unit makers who'd like to visit the SP forum and volunteer a unit will be welcome with open arms.

Yes, they are quite unsatifactory, as the quality is horrible. We have already checked those a long time ago and discarded them.

You're just jealous cus his independent eye movement allows him to oogle at twice the rate as you monkeys in tin suits.

Ok, sorry yous guys, I wasn't trying to denigrate anybody. I wasn't trying to start a flame 'skirmish'. I realize any creating at all will benefit countless. Still...the Mon Calamari would taste better than the Space Marine. Especially with some mon calasake. Buh dun tish!:p Bad joke, I know...
