I'm going by weapon and counterpart crossed with age... you're obsessing too much about a meaningless name, not the technology and what it relates to in Civ4.Yeah but if you are being general about it, which Civ is, the Cuirassier would be more prevalent earlier in that spectrum, there should be overlap; Cuirassier 1500 to 1850 and Cavalry 1800 to 1920. That's what I think at least, but again; it isn't important because ultimately it would be up to the person using the graphic as to where they would place the unit. The point is just that it looks cool. So the argument is moot.
The Cuirassier graphic in Civ4 uses a MUSKET and is age-paired with the Musketman.
The Cavalry graphic in Civ4 uses a RIFLE and is age-paired with the Rifleman.
Muskets were the main weapon used and deployed by armies into the 1850s, where-as Rifles were the main weapons used and deployed by armies from around the 1860s on-out.
At the time-frame of the uniforms above, we're talking clearly in the MUSKET time-frame, as Santa Anna's armies of the 1830s/1840s used muskets... both foot soldier and mounted... so we're talking Civ4 game-equivalents of the Musketman and Cuirassier.
