Has anyone made a more generic horse archer? It seems the present one is very Mongolian. so Mongolian, I'm planning on replacing the Keshik graphic with it and using the regular Keshik graphic for their new uu.

I would make it myself, but I don't know what a generic horse archer would look like.

While it does look somewhat mongolian (although it looks like a generic eurasian steppes horsearcher), there are way better mongol units you could be using for the mongols besides that lame vanilla model.

Bakuel's mongol ancient and medieval mongol sets are just about 99% historically accurate. On top of being 10000 time better looking than either the default keshik or default horse archer.

Keshiks were actually the khan's personal guard. So downgrading the model would be a shame.

I was working on this generic model.
Initially I scheduled it for my ongoing production of bronze age units, but I've shifted it into classical age, although it is borderline between these ages.
If you are intersted on it, feel free to ask me to resume the model.

Actually no. Keshiks were the imperial guard. Keshiks would eventually make thier way into the cavalry but not all light cavalry were keshiks. Most cavalry commanders and generals had to make thier way through the keshik ranks first. Even though they were a guard of sorts their numbers were quite large. Eventually a single group of keshiks could be 10,000 strong, and were commanded by a baghadur (pretty much a mongol equivelant of knight or hero).

Ive seen those refernces to keshiks and light cavalry and even the wiki article on kheshigs. Possibly just a different/more correct spelling. Though they all seem to be getting thier information from the same sources.

Actually that's a good idea. I never knew why spies didn't have a paradropping ability, I thought it would be a good addition to their abilities. In fact I think the SuperSpies mod is fantastic, and as long as you implement that false-flag operation I posted I think it would be even better. Although I was never able to get the assassination mission to work on my computer for some reason.

Anyway I second this request, I tried myself but wit horrible results. Basically just the modern spy unit with the ability to paradrop. Shouldn't be too difficult for an experienced unit-maker. Anyone wanna step up to bat on this one?

EDIT: Should it have the paratrooper animation or the normal spy animation when it is idle?

Anyone know where I can find a Bomber skinned to be a Greek Bomber? I couldn't find one. There are plenty of fighters and jet fighters but no bomers.

All I know about the difference between Keshiks and Kheshigs is this:

Six of every ten Mongol troopers were light cavalry horse archers, the remaining four were more heavily armored and armed lancers. Mongol light cavalry soldiers, called keshik, were extremely light troops compared to contemporary standards, allowing them to execute tactics and maneuvers that would have been impractical for a heavier enemy (such as European knights). Most of the remaining troops were heavier cavalry with lances for close combat after the archers had brought the enemy into disarray. All soldiers usually carried scimitars or axes as well.

Kheshig (Khishig, Keshig, Keshichan) were the imperial guard for Mongol royalty in the Mongol Empire, particularly for the rulers like the Genghis Khan and his wife Borte. Their primary purpose was basically a body guard for the emperors and rulers and to protect them during the day and night. They were divided into 2 areas, the day guard and the night guard, Khevtuul. They were distinct from the regular army, since if the army is out in battle with its enemies, there won't be military men left to protect Genghis Khan.

It's actually quite difficult to do this. The Spy would have to use Paratrooper animations, not Spy animations. It is possible to rig the 'chute into another unit, but it disappears. I can't make it show up (achilleszero tried this as well, with similar results IIRC).

May I ask what you mean by this? Are you saying that the parachute doesn't show up when they paradrop? How hard would it be to skin the paratrooper to look like the spy and the others? Personally, I wouldn't mind if they were all using the paratrooper animations. Even the spy, it would only get used in SuperSpies and even then only for the modern spy. If you think about, someone dressed all in black looking around like the paratrooper does would look about as suspicious as I would imagine a spy would (or could). A pistol or SAM Infantry-style SMG wouldn't be out of place either if you ask me.

Yeah, I figured it was those two articles exactly that you were referencing. I ran across those several yuears ago and was quite confused for some time. You'll even see other pages that apparently refer to the first article word for word.

Keshik was actually derived from those 3 words in parentheses at the beginning of the kheshig article. Also you are redirected to that article from searching for keshik (in small print under header of article). I actually wish it were the name for the light cavalry, as I have been searching for both the names of either the heavy or light cavalry without any success. I think both types would make excellent alternate UU's. In fact bakuel's mongol heavy cavalry is spot on as far as accuracy (maybe alittle too shiny though, so maybe it would make a better baghadur). Irregardless though I guess all this really has no bearing on what unit you should use. I just hate all the misleading info in wikipedia. Who knows how many times Ive been duped by them.

Yeah I failed miserably at that. In fact my attempt led me to believe some falsehoods about unit making that set me back quite a ways, until Mechaerik enlightened me. Its a funky situtation with the parachute. I can twist around just about any animation and mix and match to where a unit can have any combination of other units animations at the same time. But that parachute is puzzling.

Sucks about the spy paratrooper though, but hopefully one day the dream can be realized. Perhaps just using the paratrooper animations but with the spy model could be a compromise though if that makes it easier.

I'd also like to restate Madman's request for a Zebra skin for horse models. If anyone has one or knows a mod that might have one that would be awesome. Thanks.

@Mechaerik: here is a way more 'mongol' looking horse archer that you could use. Way more fitting of the keshik and a UU in general, than using a default model. I have no idea who made it or where it came from, possibly one of bernie's creations.
