Singing in choir, I surfed through the sight-reading. The waves are too long for one breath, you have to side-slip to cope. I often fall off and get tumbled around, gasping and cold, until I'm thrown onto the safety of the sodden beach. But just sitting and watching everyone else surf is lonely and disappointing - although it's easier to catch the pattern and note the mistakes.
