I must hold off my vote for now. Just found out the new patch was out.

Given it's size, it will probably take all night to DL with my crappy dial-up (45.5MB)

I am just wondering if those having problems are running a game started under 1.09. I get the feeling you are suppose to be able to play current games post patch, but maybe you can't. Just a thought.

As for the quote, that is from the 2K site. Also causes wonder regarding patch complains.

I am so close to finishing my current game, not sure if I want to patch it now or not. There is probably 10-20 turns left before I either lose the space race (not even running in it) or I get a domination victory. Problem is, 20 (involved)turns will take a day or two get through with the current slowness of the game.

Better finish your game first, old saves don't work with new patch

Thx 4d headsup Rob.

Now if they would patch the patch download. First attempt I got 6MG down and it quit. 2nd time I got 11MB down before it quit. If the DL gets interrupted, you have to start over. this might take more than "all night".

Yeah, I just let it run after two attempts during the day at four A.M. and on and when I woke up it worked:D.

ok, so i did have a strange experience during my last game: one of my worker units stood up and then floated due west, around the world and when they got back to their original place they started working again. it was wild.

That bug was there before.

Athlon 1.7
512DDR
ABIT NFS board
Radeon 9500 128mb

I can now advance through the modern era, with low resolution textures and detail settings, single unit graphics and animations off. The sluggishness and random crashes were putting me off.

Its lucky I like the first 2 eras best :)

The patch has made a big difference for me and I'm glad the game is finally playable.

They still haven't fixed the "Mouse Overlay" Bug... Other than that, they did a great job. Late-game wise especially.

I now have the problem where the leaders look like corpses talking to me , then change to normal

The game is now utterly unplayable and I am plotting against Firaxis as we speak.

I'm only kidding. I never had any significant problems except slowing on huge maps with lots and lots of civilizations duking it out.

However, I've noticed they really improved a lot of stuff in the interface, Civolpedia, etc. Plus, it seems to be playing harder. No longer is the "4-wonder rush" (Stonehenge, Pyramids, Parthenon & Oracle) that easy... In fact, I seldom get all four and feel good if I 3 of the 4 most of the time.

The game plays just as beautifully as under 1.0 and 1.09.

Even the wonder movies are just as choppy as before. But to be honest, I've seen often enough by now.

Game 1.09 = crash
Game 1.09 + Hark's Patch = Awesome
Game 1.52 = crash

1.52 installed over Hark's patch= doesn't work right....uh, duh?

It has been posted several times that you have to have a clean install of 1.0 or 1.09 to get the 1.52 patch to work right...

Wow!!! maybe you should ask if I did a clean install before your a smartass. I did, and guess what genius it still crashes.

It says 1.52 = crash

NOT 1.52 over Hark's Patch = crash

Before the patch I had the movies turned off and medium res. on large map.

Well the patch made the game playable for me! I have a (less that optimum but above min. computer and I have played the game with every thing switched on and so far it has worked flawlessly on a large map.
My next game will be on a huge map for the real test to see if the game is "perfect"!!

Pre patch and pre Hark patch.. gamve virtually unplayable.

Post Hark patch, game much more playable, but still some aggravating stutters, inconsistent graphics, and still noticeable late game lag.

Post 1.52... Some stuttering, noticeable lag begins earlier than hark patch, computer shut down and restart is required every 2-3 hours to free up memory and prevent freezes.

I'm going to try a clean install and patch that and see if I get different results.

(Also, getting a new vid card soon-- that should help as well)

It's much better than before, but I still get slow downs, and sooner than I had with Harks patch. I haven't had a crash yet, but then again I've learned to restart the game as soon as I notice something slowing down.

1) Nightmarish leaders with eyeballs and teeth that pop out of their heads or with glowing eyes

2) No more domestic advisor screen

3) wonders movies unwatchable

4) quicksave crashes the game

5) NO performance improvement whatsoever

6) No improvements that I can see

I need a patch to fix the patch

I can get the game to run after 1.52 but I am missing several icons here and there. Most notably are the icons for the advisors and also the icons that appear right above the mini map.

Well at least it is running. Anyone else like to share how the patch worked for them?

my crappy dial up will take me 3 hours to download :(. this better be worth it. im at 30% right now.
