Version 2.8beta

Zap, just use the scripts you linked to, and use NSIS. It will take care of everything, those scripts automatically check the registry keys, set up links to load the mod, and do everything you would need. I suppose the thing is I don't know why you linked to my scripts, and then didn't use them. Especially since whatever you are using isn't as good, it would be one thing if you linked to my scripts and then presented something that worked as well or better...

RoM may be working for you in the My Documents path, but it's just asking for problems loading from there. You should really be setting it up to load from the Program Files path.

I linked to your scripts as I thought I used that program - I'm actually at my friend's place where I can do the upload process in a reasonable amount of time and with higher success rate, for this reason I can't now check what program I used on my own computer. Sorry, I guess I remembered the wrong software.

Edit: Google is my friend, the program was Clickteam's Install Creator.

Anyway the user can always set the path himself to point to correct place if the install program's suggestion is not right.

Program Files path is not ideal as for example I never install games to that location (the common problems with UAC on Vista/Windows 7) - so best would be to retrieve BtS install location from registry, which I think your script does do? I'm going to download your scripts and try them in the future. :)

This was the first time I ever tried to make installer so I still got some learning to do...

For anyone having problems with the installer, you can actually install it anywhere you want and then just move 'Rise of Mankind' -folder with it's contents to '...\Beyond the Sword\Mods' folder

Oh yeah, if BtS itself isnt' installed in program files, it shouldn't go there :p, but I meant mods perform better if they are installed in the main BtS path, and not My Documents. Anyway, definatly check out those scripts, they are very easy to use, plus they create shortcuts for the user to insta launch the mod :), and yes they do check the user's registry and always install to the correct location.

That's part of life in general, and certainly part of the modding process.

Install Creator (dl link in my previous post) had options for creating shortcuts and using registry but I didn't try out those features yet. Good to know that mods work better under installation folder.

@Everyone

Uploaded the beta to AtomicGamer as well. You can download v2.8beta from here too now.

Looks like the upload process was not successfull to Filefront's site and that file is corrupted - it didn't work for me correctly. I removed the link to it from 1st post so use the link to the AtomicGamer site from now on. I hope that one works... if it doesn't then I'll have to try to repeat the upload process again on weekend.

I've got a question... would it be feasible to have the significantly new versions install to a differently named mod folder than the older ones? I'd like to be able to just start ROM 2.7 OR ROM 2.8 without having to rename folders when I am trying a new version, or to know exactly what version I am running from the start a mod screen, as I like to work with more than one version until I am sure which one I like. Just a thought. :)

Already trying Atomic Gamer, about 1/5th downloaded, as always, thanks for your time you spend on this, by far my favorite mod, really can't imagine playing BTS without it

Don't get down Zappara. I wasted an entire afternoon the first time I started using an installer. It took forever to get it right...

its good that your using an installer cause it will take some of the guess work out for people but i think it'd be better to use an installer that lets ppl pick whether they want to install to programs or documents cause personally i make a few changes to the mod b4 i start playing it and it would be easier to do so if i installed directly to the documents instead of programswhere i would have to launchgame first but either way it is a good idea

So I'm D/L'ing a Bad file from Atomicgamer? Rats!

Guess I better just stop it till I see zap post that it's fixed. <sigh>

JosEPh :(

IIRC I tested this once on RoM and it was 25% smaller than rar. .rar is obsolete!
Actually rar is not obsolete. It's true that 7z packs files better but it doesn't offer (as far as I know) recovery option at all which means that if the packed file has errors, rar can recover from it but 7z can't - thus I rather use rar for this reason.

I'm uploading the beta again today. I found the problem and it wasn't Filefront's or AtomicGamer's fault this time.
