Must be an isolated issue I'd say, I've played at least a dozen games on 2.71 and mostly made it to late Renaissance era (had to restart many times because of new updates of mini-mods) and I've occasionally had it CTD but not as frequently as 2.8 does.

Good news bad News. My latest beta's have no waiting for civ bug anymore. However, I have discovered a cause for some CTD's. Apparently, somewhere in the formula for the AI deciding the tech to pick, it divides by 0. That causes a CTD. I'm working on it though.

I posted logs and saves the last time, and in the end was told that everyone experienced these. I have tried on more than one system, so can't believe it's a system problem. As long as changing the wonder cap pre game doesn't have anything to say.

Beta5 will have the fix, and I've reported the bug to Jdog5000, so it will be in the next RevDCM/UP, and thus, RoM 2.8 will have it too.

Just remember there can be more than 1 thing causing ctd's. I've only found/fixed 1.

Not fixes "Renaissance era CTD problem", but can continue playing without totally destroying a nation (finally all of them one by one - as i did before:

just go into Worldbuilder
and give technology: Astronomy, to all of the AI nations.

Only one couses CTD, which starts -or finishing?- developing Astronomy, but sooner or later all of them will. For human player not needed.

There may be other technologies which cause CTD, but it seems to be Astronomy is the first. I couldn't find any error in CIV4TechInfos.xml (of course there can be anyway), so the AI should couse the crash, as Afforess wrote.

Maybe that's what it fixed. It had to do with techs, ships... I didn't look too deep in the code, but as soon as I fixed it, I could go further in my game, and my AIAutoPlay game is in the modern era now with no CTD's.

Yep, I've reloaded an old game just before CTD, gave the AI (only to one of them) Astronomy and all went well. So, I can continue the current game (which hasn't reached the CTD point yet) I was afraid it will end before it's time in 1470

Maybe that's what it fixed. It had to do with techs, ships... I didn't look too deep in the code, but as soon as I fixed it, I could go further in my game, and my AIAutoPlay game is in the modern era now with no CTD's.

Well, it worked for me too, sort of. I gave it to all (including myself as it was such an advanced tech), and I got past the dreaded turn. It didn't take more than 10 turns to get to a new impassible turn again, however.

I must say I am no god in this type of fixing. I just download RoM and install it. Is there a way to include your changes, Afforess, already, without waiting for next release of RoM?

Also, I would like to ask if any of the following changes in the XML could cause a CTD (although I seriously dioubt it):
- Increase hammers produced from Engeneer and Great Engeneer by 1 each
- Increase movement across route types, so that the "better" (higher in the upgrade path) is better, even if a unit has many movement points. Lets say, a humvee with moral, 4 movement points. Then a paved road is better than railroad, isn't it? Or do units use what is best of the flat movement and the other one? (choose to ride the roads if that is quicker than rails)
- Increase wonder cap to infinity (setting it to -1)
- change leader traits (to be precise, set Bismarck to scientific and charismatic)
- change handicap file to add the possibility of settler and worker (although very unlikely) at all difficulty levels

I think that's all I can remember doing.
In case I don't get it to work, does anyone know how to fix it so that mines don't destroy forrest in vanilla BtS?

Route system must have exactly correct settings or you will get CTDs. The calculation is bit complex too but basically you can use iMovement values that are full integer value when 120 is divided with some value. Non-integer results will cause CTDs.

Well, I haven't done it this time. And I have done it right. Always integers of course, and I have only used numbers that devide 60. But as I said, none this time.

But I must say one thing. After playing RoM now, going back to vanille BtS is just not possible. There are so many things that have become necesary (don't know how to spell it, sorry, I'm Norwegian). Civ with RoM is the greatest experience ever. All hail Zappara. I do agree with what someone else said. You should be included in the development of Civ 5. At least as a properly tested and included mod in the vanilla package, and given funds to improve. Well, as long as you don't give up, I'll be happy.

Hey! That Astronomy fix saved my latest CTD. I will attach the file View attachment Nephretiti AD-1874.CivBeyondSwordSavethe turn before I give (through diplomacy) a number of civs Astronomy and the turn right before the CTD during the AIs' turn. Sad, because I was hoping to hold on to it to get a jump on the race to the new world. I guess it doesn't matter, I've pretty much already won this one. Anyway, sounds like Astronomy is the issue. I will play through and test some more tonight.

EDIT: Oops.. crashed again. two turns later. I did miss two civs in handing out astronomy, but they didn't have optics yet, so... I'll take a closer look.

EDIT #2: Well, it looks like Julius Caesar was the culprit that turn. I made it through by giving everyone Astronomy. Also, I am not changing the field of view. Let's see how that works.

By the way, zappara. You never answered about the crusaders, them not getting the starting experience it should beeing a melee unit built in a city with barracks and two military instructors (for instance). Is this a strange feature or a bug?

the installer puts the files in the wrong place. its firaxis games, not firaxis. no big deal

i used the installer and corrected the path to goto firaxis games but it didnt install a mod folder. i have components of the bug mod but no rise of mankind folder or mod option.

im not sure what all it put on my computer but there are all sorts of broken files and in my civ4 mod folder. im gonna do a system restore and try this again i guess...

Yeah, the installer doesn't point to the right spot. You need the 2.8beta installer to go to

/whereeverCiv4BTSis/Mods/Rise of Mankind

Okay so call me stupid, but I cannot seem to find the Religion Menu 2.71 txt file or "that file" that I'm supposed to replace. Can somebody help me out with the exact file names I should be looking for? Extra bonus points if you can give me the path too.
