Very quick noob SG

So you got 4 tehcs in 10 turns? :worship: We could just about turn off research and crank up the culture at this point!

I took a look after eektor's turns, and we are well on the way to domination. We are probably there as far as pop goes, we just need some more land. Taking care of Toka should get us close, otherwise I vote to go for GK next (he would be the easiest, since we'll have Toka's cities. Saladin would be a lot harder to get to and take care of.)

I think I'll start working on VG02 tonight. Looks like another round of turns is all that's left of this one! :goodjob:

Just so no one's confused... here's the roster.

player 1: Maquis ---- On deck
player 2: oldbustedjorn ---- Hoping for one last turnset
player 3: eektor ---- Wiped JC off the map
player 4: GreyFox ---- Just played
player 5: bobrath ---- UP

Nice job GreyFox! I don't think I'll be playing in this game again. My prediction is it will end in late Maquis turnset or early in oldbustedjorn turnset with a domination victory.

- Why is Lyons building Grenadier? Without Barracks?

Hey, but it was the best :smoke: you have ever :smoke: 'ed.. That'd be my bad

We have Railsroad, so start byuilding rails for lumbermills and mine

That's some serious dyslexia going on there, are you sure you didn't steal some of my :smoke:

Seriously, those were some major wicked turns right there. If we do another GA, it will be like playing on settler I think. Therefore lets just start mowing civs down. Land a few fleets of infantry/cannons and start dropping the :hammer: on Japan, then the Mongols, then the Arabs - if no instant domination, then China...

ok... so got it.... and here's the turns:

Sorry about just turn loggin it.... but pure building round and there just wasn't a lot of interesting stuff going on here. I decided to not set up the next few players for an easy war, but instead will make them build up a massive army so maybe (just maybe) greyfox and I will get a turn at killing something!

Our victory Progress:
civ4screenshot00048zp.jpg

So pop wise we'll be there in a matter of years... land wise we need to get aggresive!

Demographics are more of the same (lots of first places). The chart shows a dramatic dip when our GA ended, but we're almost back to that high point (and still have a GA in the bag).

The picture(s) of our world:
Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPGCiv4ScreenShot0006.JPG

So what's up for the next person?
  • Use the GA from our two specialists to finish infrastructure builds and then switch up civics to start cranking out units.
  • Airports going up in some cities. Should help with airlifts once the war is cranking
  • Finish Railroading - our cities need to have railroads between them to speed up military movement (try to go through mines and mills for the extra hammer)
  • upgrade our defense!! Lots of units that can take the current tech attacks of our enemies - but why chance it?
  • Build the Pentagon before you complete units. We've got the Kremlin so it could be cheap to hurry production on it (with a civic switch). The extra xp will be huge.

Artillery will be due next turn. I've upgraded about half of our navy, but a few turns at 0 research will give you plenty of funds to up the army. Remember that xp can be lost when you upgrade a unit so be sure to not upgrade a unit 1 or 2 exp short of the next rank!

The more I do this write up... the more I think I've still made it a bit too easy for the next player to actually start a succesful war....

Ah well, the save:

Now, I like this PLAN! :yup:

Airport might not be that useful in the begining, with only one city in toku's land, only 1 unit can be beamed a turn. But it will become more useful as we capture cities.
So, build more ships, that's why I build the drydocks!

Remember Rheims? -- I think its still the :hammer: powerhouse, so it can build the pentagon.
Remember I mentioned also two forests outside of BFC near Rheims? -- use them!
Should get the pentagon in no time, if the GA is also triggered.

Didn't knew that, learn something everyday! :salute:

From the Predict-The-Furture-Oracle

I think this is what will happen:

- Maquis will build up the army and draw first blood.

- OldBustedJorn will finish off the Japs.

- eektor will rebuild and declare on GK or/and Saladin.

- GreyFox happily thinking he finally get some action, and when he press enter anticipating some real war, those captured jap cities expand in culture and game over: "You won a domination victory!" :aargh:

:hmm: ...

Now, how about we reduce to 5 turns each? :wow:
:lol::rotfl::lol:

-

Ok, I got it. I'll be playing tonight.

Great job bobrath! I like that you continued some buildup, and didn't rush us into the war.

Now, if I can do thae same... I will TRY not to rush us into the war :twitch:

- OldBustedJorn will finish off the Japs.

Nah, I'll try to mess up destroy our army :)

I'm ok with 5 turns but it could get annoying when you figure how many times we'll have to get through the roster to finish!

As a side note, I've just achieved my first ever conquest win, and it was on prince! Yea, yea, so I set myself up for it by playing a tiny map... It was fun though, me vs. the Incans and Monty - of course, I just happened to RANDOMLY draw the Romans....

I can't wait till our next game!

@oldbustedjorn: Are you sure about the RANDOMLY?

No, I was kidding about the 5 turns thing ... actually I am really a builder's at heart ... ;) seriously, I truly enjoy all my builder's turn ... you know, they say a war is won at the building up :cooool:

Goodluck Maquis, show the Japs what the Spainards are capable of!!!

Let see, we have 26 cities and yet our land area is only 38%, need another 26% which is roughly equivalent to 15~17 more cities. Assuming you can take a city in one turn, the game would still have to continue until at least oldbustedjorn's turnset. A more accurate esdtimate would be a city in 2 turns, and Maquis need at least half of the goldne age to muster the forces and trasport them to the frontlines, that is something like 30 more turns.

:wow: my oracle predictions might actually be correct!!!!

-

I really see this dragging out at least until GreyFox's turns. I am not planning on starting the war until late into my turns.

Priorities:

1) Start the GA, begin building the rest of our military up, including some naval.
2) Change into wartime civics (I won't forget police state this time!)
3) Get the Pentagon built.
4) Declare on Toku if there is time.

I will probably be handing it off to oldbustedjorn just as the war machine begins rolling.

We actually have a fairly decent navy. I was happily suprised to see how many ships we have on both sides of the contient. I tried to make sure we have a line of sight defense between our settlements and the Japanese. Also did some recon as I could. We do have 1 destroyer (upgraded) and 3-4 transports (upgraded) along with numerous galleons and frigates. I'm not too concerned with our navy (though I did kick off some more dry docks).

Also got some barracks in cities that were missing them to either provide healing or better building bases.

Yeah, Rheims will be a great city for the pentagon. Remember with the Kremlin we have 1/2 cost hurry production (if we're in the right civic that is).

bobrath: Good to know, thanks for the naval buildup!
I am planning on putting the pentagon in Rheims, I'll rush as appropriate.

Do we want/need to keep up with techs at this point? I am thinking of turning down/off the tech, and putting into commerce AND culture. Since land area is going to be our need for domination, would it make sense to get culture going in the new cities to get that land quicker?

@oldbustedjorn: Are you sure about the RANDOMLY?

Actually yea! I love playing random because I never get dependent on one civ-based strategy... I did win that early rush, but I didn't really know how well praets worked - and I made plenty of mistakes because of it.

Do we want/need to keep up with techs at this point?

Do we have artillery? (I'm too lazy to look back)... Infantry/Artillery/Gunships would be nice - I wouldn't worry about tanks. But it would be nice to keep researching some mil techs to have an edge. By the time we get to the Arabs, they may have infantry... I do agree with maybe slowing it down for money/culture.

Artillery will complete research on Maquis' first turn.

Oil well will complete in six turns unless you put another worker on it - and that will open up other units for us to build.

Yes, having culture cranked for new cities will help us reach domination sooner. Got to get them out of revolt and then popping borders asap.

I think we can safely turn down research for a few years to have enough gold to upgrade our military, but then we should turn it back on.

:gripe: @ bobrath ... *whisper softly to him*: which is exactly what we should avoid if you hope to see some action!!!!

Err... no comments on pushing the slider on culture, but definitely we need more gold to upgrade and rush units. I wouldn't worry about researching right now. Seriously, with our GNP, I think even 40% research is still more than the closest AI (QSH no doubt).

Ok, I'll make this short, I kept it mostly to building for my turnset.

I started our golden age on the first turn. I then turn science down to 30% once artillery comes in. This nets us nearly 1000 gold per turn (with the GA)!
I also changed civics to maximize output for our GA. I will of course change to wartime civics at the end of the GA.

I do a lot of upgrading of old units. During the GA I am building infra... the military will come at the end of the GA. There are still a few old units hanging around, but I tried to get every city at least one modern unit for defense.

A few highlights:

Built Pentagon in Rheims.

Saladin must have some great stuff to :smoke:

Saladin.JPG

Right in the middle of our empire! Well cultural pressure from Barcelona and Jaen will take care of it.

With a couple of turns left, I decide we are at the ready. So I declare on Toka, with this stack ready to charge the border:

Stacked.JPG

I think I may have taken an extra turn?? Well, ok! I just could not hand off the save without taking one city!! I may not see this game come back to me...
hmm... I guess the screenshot did not take... but Nara is ours.

Kyoto can be next... it's not too heavily defended (we had a lot more resistance from JC in Rome!)

Take it away oldbustedjorn!

No, we don't have cavalry... so the Conq's stayed... oh well. It looks like the best unit Toka has are muskets. I don't think we should have any problems with Toka's units.

Don't worry about having both games up at once. I'd say lean toward this one first. It'd be good to get this game taken care of!!

:woohoo: the war is on! :hammer:

Fantastic turns, maquis!

But I am a bit dismay about the state of our navy. See the japanese carvel near Rome? Nothing we can do to stop it from pillaging our fish. I would suggest turning off research, build up our gold and buy some destroyers to take care of it.... opps, but we can't, we are in PS

We better build more navies before declaring war on the next AI ... whoever is next in line for the chopping block.

All in all, wonderful job in gearing up the war machine! I am really impressed with the stack of doom you managed to put togather and marshalled into Toku's land!

:D Saladin must be eyeing for the jaen site when he first loaded his settler on a ship. Crazy guy, a free city for us anyway, but I wonder if we will see the city flip before we are victorious.

Infantry loses to: Japanese Grenadier (0.48/12)

??? - If all that combat was in one city on one turn (which may not be the case), why did we lose this? The first two battles were against longbow and samurai, so they must've had city defense bonuses to defend first. That means the grenadier was defending at 12+What? If it was 20 vs. 12 - we seriously got the shaft...
