Very quick noob SG

All that combat was in the the same city (Nara)... and yes, it was a major upset. I had bombarded defense down to 5%, so I was [pissed] that we lost that battle.

I doubt Sala's city will flip to us.
a) Jaen is brand spanking new so it doesn't have much culture lead.
b) Barcelona is a distance off so its culture won't exert a ton no to mention the next culture pop may be a while off
c) city flipping seems rare and random at best. I just don't get the mechanism behind cities flipping.

We can encouarge the flip by making sure that city become buddhist tho...

I'll look forward to viewing the save file when I get home tonight.

Actually, if you noticed in the turnlog, Barcelona expanded after Sala's city was founded, and he has already lost the tiles to the south of his city.

One more pop by Jaen and Saladin's city will only have a couple tiles left and getting pressure from both sides.

I still don't know if it would flip before we get domination, but I think it would given some time.

Fustat definitely would flip, its not a question of if, its when. Jaen might be brand new, but it already has some base culture. Top it up with our 20% culture slider ... :).

Cultural flip depends on our cultural pressure on Fustat, and Fustat's stationed troops. Since its recently settled, Fustat can't possibly have that many troops, so there is a high chance of it flipping. It takes two revolts in Fustat for it to flip though, so unless we see a revolt in Fustat during oldbustedjorn's turnset, chances are we wouldn't see the flip.

on the millitray front, I would suggest turning off research for while, switching back to UniSuff, and then buying all we can before switching back to PS. WW would not creep in that fast.

Units wise, I think our cannons should be enough, no need to build more, considering destroyers can do the bombardments equally well. We need more ships, more infantry.

About the Infantry lost ... its sheer bad luck -- :spear:
though not that extreme (Infantry is a gunpowder unit, right? so Grenadier has some bonus against Infantry).

Well its not so weird that the infantry lost, but rather that the Gren was the THIRD unit to defend. I thought (possibly wrong) that the best unit was used to defend - which in this case was a longbow and then something else before the gren. The only thing I can think of, is that the first two infantry had gunpowder or melee promotions...

By the way, I think I am up - I'll play tonight. Sorry I didn't get to it last night, didn't get home until 10pm and had to get some sleep. I'll definitely get both VQ's in tonight..

About the lucky-ass grenadier... I don't remember exatly what the longbow and samurai had for promotions, but the infrantry were CR III and CR II that I had used (upgraded troops!) I'm guessing the longbow must have had some City Garrison promotions...

Oh well.. I'm just hoping I left you a big enough stack to march straight through Toka's lands. Speaking of March... there should be an upgraded Infr with march in the stack... should help us mow through things quickly!

OK, one last warning... I saw 3-4 cats in Kyoto... so be careful about putting our SOD there, we don't want too much collateral dmg.

Sorry I can't. I work til 7pm EST.

I guess this game is going to take longer than I previously thought. Looks like GreyFox and bobrath are going to get in on the action.

At least since VQ02 just started the turns should go fast. We should try to finish this quickly though.

About culture - I recommend we turn it on after the first city we captured gets out of revolt. It doesn't do us any good now, right?

I wished I had read this first before go play my other SG ...

Nope, its too late for me now, 12:30 am :wow:

Guess I'll wait for my press-enter-and-trigger-domination turn.

Go, spainards, go! :hammer:

@oldbustedjorn: liked the "Um, none" in your brand new sig ... :D, but the colors is a bit too bright for me (an old hag with blurry eyes) though

Sorry, part of the problem is that I use a black background... I'll have to fix that

LOL my turnset in CTIV-5 is up too!!! Thats 3 SG turnsets I need to do...tonight!!

I don't mind it, but you'll have to be patient unless someone wants to go ahead. I'm still at work for another 6 hours, so there is plent of time...

Yes, I will do that for VQ03. We can still do that for VQ02, if we want! Since I have been the only one to play, there's no problem in shuffling the order. I probably should have done so from the start.

I'll post some thoughs in that tread.

@eektor: About culture...

Even though we have just started the war, I turned on culture to try to get some more expansion out of out newer cities on the islands (some of them have not exapnded at all, others are ready for the second pop)

I also wanted to put the squeeze on that city of Saladin's. The faster Jaen expands the better. Since the only thing we need to dominate is land area, I wanted to get anything extra possible.

Hmmm .... so will we see the turn report from eektor before oldbustedjorn???

Don't worry about delaying one day or two, we are wining, no point in rushing ... let's saviour the sweet taste of victory ...

Having said that ... Damn! :aargh: ! I did not bring my Civ disc to office so I can't see the save !!!!!... :wallbash: :vomit:

This is my got it post. The save came too late last night for me to play, but I got a chance to look at it. I'll be playing tonight and probably post my turnset early morning or the afternoon for you GreyFox.

@eektor: Tomorrow is weekend here. So you can post anytime you want. And, I am sorry ... (you will soon know why! :))

I have downloaded the save ... but refrained from looking at it so as not to spoil the experiemce of reading oldbustedjorn's report.... but hey, I can't hold my urge any longer ...

* mouse cursor creeping towards the save *

* mouse cursor pointing at the save *

* finger applying pressure on mouse button ever so slightly ... *
