This was so sweet that I had to make own topic for it, on this video Firaxis' Anton Strenger is playing Aztecs game and the day/night cycle is on.

The part I linked it to starts with sunset making shadows longer, then it gets darker and later sunrise and back to day(naturally ;) ).

It's just eye candy, but looks atmospheric and the screen and icons never get too dark so you can see what's going on.

Also I just noticed that the wheat fields sway in the wind... love the details.

The most interesting part of this video is how the AI warrior takes advantage of the forests and the new movement rules to evade getting attacked for so long.

I like it a lot. Adds a certain unique flavor to the new installment. I like how it effects the look of the terrain. One thing that should go with it is a little weather. Occasional rain and snow would be a nice touch. Maybe Civ VI can bring back natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions. Maybe have fires erupt at random times in the city requiring fire stations. I've made the suggestion that Civilization implement a highway-road-street system similiar to SimCity. Maybe have random crime in the cities. Just a few suggestions.

It looks like the player(s) missed an opportunity to finish the warrior off at turn 14. It's a bit misleading that the tiles you can attack aren't included in the highlighted zone which show the possible movement options.

Pretty, though I would have liked to see more torches at night, etc. I do wonder if the sound changes as you change the time of day (I want to hear crickets at night 8D).

That was actually driving me crazy, LOL. I wanted the player to just kill the thing instead of dancing all around it.

It was one of the designers playing and he wanted to show the kill animation and was afraid he wouldn't kill it in good defensive terrain. Eventually I was thinking either attack the damn thing or abandon the chase.

That's one of the downsides of a limited play time. I was hoping just ONE journalist or youtuber would play it straight up like a real game to see what they prioritized and the rational. Instead everyone was rushing to show this or that (which I totally get).

Beautiful! I'm really looking forward to this feature :)

The ability to pass through other Civs' territory before Open Borders is unlocked is pretty neat. I notice that Hojo complained (understandably) when they chose to walk through his land. I guess we can assume this is the evolution of everyone's favourite 'declare war on me right now, or not at all' leader message from Civ 5?

It would be nice to have an option of the music lowering at night and night time noises -like crickets- taking precedence :D

Didn't I hear birds during the day (or just during the "morning")?

Crickes chirring and owls huhu-ing would be plain awesome! :)

So... the sun rises in the West and sets in the East? Or we are looking South... Intersting world.

I noticed that too. It's slightly disconcerting. :crazyeye:

Mhhhh.... mhhh... I hate being negative about the day and night feature that I've wanted for so long, but... am I really the only one who thinks that some parts of the cycle looks really, really horrible in that video?

Especially that part around 14:00 looks more like the whole screen has been color-shifted too far into the red spectrum than anything else.

Yep, we are looking south! At an autum day (in respect to the low-standing sun at noon). And at the same time, its high summer in a northern country, as the days seem to be reeeealy long in comparison to the night. ;)

This migth be a weird and unusual choice, but I bet, it is done with the visual effect in mind.

A shadow that is obscured by the figures might as well not exist at all. With the sun coming from the upper side of the screen, shadows are always nicely visible and "ground" the units.
Also, a high-standing summer sun wouldn't generate very visible shadows, hence the "autumly" low standing sun.

At first, I was puzzled, too. But it does make sense, somehow, doesn't it?

I love the amount of thought you guys are putting into this lol
I'm so easily pleased ;)
