VS1-Agression

Back to me?

Ok, playing now.

Pre-turn:
Checked Trades:
Bought Currency from the Incans for 650g

Turn 1:
The Hittites and Americans signed a military alliance against us.
We took the American city of Boston

Turn 2:
Moved forces to prepare for the war on both of our bordors. Switched all horsemen production to Numidian Mercenary.
Eliminated a American spearman that was threatening Hadrumetum.
Switched Oea from a warrior to a worker.
Switched Leptis Minor from a settler to a Numidian Mercenary.

Turn 3:
Monarchy is completed, decide not to switch right now. (starting work on construction)
We finish to Numidian Mercenary's move both to the lacking Japanese bordor.

Turn 4:
Nothing Major

Turn 5:
The Japanese complete the Great Wall (damn)
The Japanese won't talk, so were have to force them.

Turn 6:
The Celts and Germany signed a Military Alliance against us. (we lost our supply of ivory)
The siege of the Japanese city of Kagoshima has begun.

Turn 7:
We lost Boston to a culture flip.
We captured the Japanese city of Kagoshima.
We captured the American city of Seattle (got 3 workers also).

Turn 8:
The Russians and Babylonians signed a military alliance against us.
We lost Utica to the Celts.
Signed a Peace Treaty with the Japanese, we lose 300g. (We don't have the forces to fight wars on all three of our bordors.)
We regained the American city of Boston.

Turn 9:
America and Iroquois signed a peace treaty (damn)
We lost Hippo to the Celts.
We lost Alesia to the Celts.
Signed a Peace treaty with the Americans, we lose 156g and 2gpt. (We HAVE to concentrate our forces on the celts.)

Turn 10:
Our forces are in poistion to regain lost terrority from the Celts.

We are at war with about 7-10 Civilizations, the dominate right now being the Celts. I want every single god damn city producing a military improvements/unit. The cities that are protected by only a warrior, get a mercenary in them. They've been landing swordsmen on our shores by them the entire ten turns, and it's been a pain bringing units back from the front lines to protect them.

Cool! The game is really beginning to be interesting. Must have some guts to win it. Especially without iron. Though I'd argue about military. We need more settlers to settle more cities inside our borders and go to AW type of build with NM as a basic unit.

Looks like WF and CT either don't have these guts or just dropped because too busy or smthing else. The 4 remaning players can continue or we can try to recruit replacement???

Back guys, sort me back into the lineup whereever. :)

Strider- just played, and in all our prayers.
WildFire- skipped
Gengis Khan- UP!
akots- On deck
Chieftess- skipped
andvruss- on the bench

Got it

Here's what I'm dealing with, just so noone gets mad if ends on my turn. We're at war with Germany, Spain, Hittites, Russia, Celts & Babylon. We can't talk to 2 of them, and all the rest want a city minimum for peace(some want 2).

Playing today though.:crazyeye:

Cool! We gained Seattle and Boston (???) but lost three of our core cities. And half territory is not settled. And all of this in just 20 turns. From glory to dust.

Try to do what you can. It might be a good idea to gamble and abandon that Seattle town, move all horses to recapture the core cities, whip heavily everywhere. We may have a chance to survive.

Finished up. The good news is we still have a city or two.:crazyeye:

I have to run out real quick for a lunch meeting, will post the log & some shiney pictures as soon as I get back.

Well you guys saw how bad it was. We have 6 warriors, 2 archers, 6 horses, 5 cats, & 10 numids for me to work with. We’re weak against everyone, and at war with most of them. Good thing most of our enemies are on the West coast. If any of them get alliance & we get dragged into war with another neighbor it’ll be over in a single turn though.

Rush a couple units immediately. Stop some workers that are working in now Celtic territory & move them out(/use them as bait). Wake some catapults to bombard units next to them. Start sending our horses back north.

IT- A picture is worth a 1000 words, two of them spell the beginning of the end. :( We also lose 2 archers & a few Numids that are out in the open.
VS-1.JPG

VS-2.JPG

T1 (230)- Pop-rush a few more units, kill off an archer & a gallic.

IT- Our Numids are feeling lucky, we kill or retreat about 6 gallic/A Cav; only lose 1 Numid.
And again………
VS-3.JPG

T2 (210)- Kill off 4 gallics, some more pop rushing.
Here’s our foreign advisor at this point……..(this isn’t including Spain, who’s also at war with us.)
VS-4.JPG

IT- Our Numids continue holding their ground, kill off/retreat 6 Gallics/ACs with only 1 loss.
When it rains it poors.:wallbash:
VS-5.JPG

VS-6.JPG

VS-7.JPG

T3 (190)- Kill off an AC & 2 Gallics, lose a horse.
Celts still won't talk to us.

Despite all this great news, I’m going try going on the offensive. If we keep waiting on their Gallics & Ancient Cavs they'll eventually overwealm us, it's only a matter of time. However since they're both quick they can't be guarded, this leaves them weak to counterattack. If I can keep our front held together & mount somewhat of an attack on them I might be able to drive a wedge in their line. Take our cats, horses & all Numids(except 1) from Leptis Minor and march on Hippo. This will be a good indication of how well guarded their cities are & if all is lost or if we maybe have a shot.

IT- Izzy comes to us offering Peace for all our money(16gpt & 16g). HA! I’m not scared till I start seeing some swords on the prowl.
We lose 2 Numids, but kill off 2 Gallics & retreat another 2. Those freaking +1hp Ancient Cavs are killing me!
Because we lost an Numid MP Leptis Minor riots.

continued....................

T4 (170)- We kill off 2 spears and………………
VS-8.JPG

We spot 3 German swords 2 turns away from attacking Hippo.
Lose a horse over in the west. Kill off another AC & Gallic though. If all continues going this well(rather the unending string of crap doesn’t get worse), I might be able to start planning an attack to retake Utica.

IT- 4 German swords show up outside Hippo.
A wounded redlined horse kills off a redlined Gallic.
Then a redlined warrior kills off a 2hp AC.[dance]

In keeping with the tradition of this post being a picture book:
VS-9.JPG

T5 (150)- Too funny! We’re out of the Ancient Age, yet still in despotism.
Quite a few civs have Eng, Fued, & Mono(one, two or all three….. most have them all). But noone has started Sisteen, Knight’s, or Leo’s so I think that’s all we’re down. (besides Monarch & Republic of course)

Start on Feud with a scientist. No one will trade us anything yet.

West Flank: Bombard then kill off an AC.
Send some newly produced offensive troops towards to go on the offensive.

Southern Flank(Hippo): El Horse retreats from Gmn sword, -2hp to it.
El horse kills a Gmn sword, -1hp. And………..
VS-10.JPG

“Salvation??” appears from the carnage.[dance] Cremwil takes a singles step back to Hippo & forms an Numid Army(2 Vets I was bringing down to reinforce & 1 reg 1hp that was in the city).
That might just save our asses. I admit, my confidence is starting to rise; I actually change Oea/Kogoshima to temples & our Capitol to a market. (they’ll get switched back though, just wishful thinking on my part)

IT- Our new army beats off 2 swords, taking serious damage & leaving it with 2hp(but one promotes).
 About 9 more German swords show up outside Hippo.
Our people start screaming for the Hero Epic.

T6 (130)- I hate to do it, but we don’t have a choice. Our army has 3hp, we have no other Numids there, just some healing horses. I’m not losing Hippo again.
Kill off 2 swords first to try to bring down the price, -1 & 2 hp to horses.
We cough up 19gpt & 77g to get Biz to call off the dogs.

Western Front: Kill a Gallic.

IT- Babs try to extort the rest of our loot for peace. Sorry.

T7 (110)- Trust me, no news is good news.

IT- A Scandinavian galley shows up on our coast.

T8 (90)- Move troops outside Utica.
Rush a horse in Leptis Magna to deal with the galley.

IT- I’m wearing out my dancing shoes in this one.[dance]
VS-11.JPG

Scandanavian galley drops off a sword, then leaves. Another one shows up right behind it.
Germans start Sistine.

T9 (70)- Lose a horse, two more retreated but……………… (and yea, that’s a Numid taking the city:lol: )
VS-12.JPG

El Horse is killed attacking Scand Sw, -3hp but he promotes.
V Horse kills the sword off flawlessly.
Rush a Numid in Hippo in preparation for my march on Camolodunum.

IT- Brenius comes asking peace for “only” 40g. Should have offered that 6 turns ago and you’d still have 2 of your cities.
People start building Leo’s.

T10 (50)- The best news I’ve seen all day. We don’t even have to go to war for iron! (but it might cause a war)
VS-13.JPG

When the temple completes & our borders expand it will push back the Japanese borders capturing the Iron peacefully.

Start marching on Camolodunum.

Hope you guys don’t mind, I’m going to take a couple extra turns to see the campaign to the end. I’ll play a few less next turn.

IT- Vikings ask all our dough/gpt for peace. Keep dreaming.
In a glaring oversight Theveste riots. Doh!

T11 (30)- Troops continue moving in for the kill.
Horse retreats from a spear in our territory, -1hp.

IT- Sure, we start beating up on the Celts & everyone takes notice. Russia asks for all our dough for peace. Again NO!

T12 (10)-
VS-14.JPG
Unfortunatly “Salvation??” and another horse don’t live to see us walk into the city. Comes complete a matching pair of furs & resistors. But in good news, the Celts were kind enough to stock it full of 4 slaves & we get 2 of our workers back.

Archer picks off that spear that got lost in our land, -1hp.

IT- Scandinavia dumps off a Med Inf on our shores.

T13 (10AD)- Elite Horse kills him as soon as he touches ground.
Final phase of “my personal mission” set to complete next turn.

IT- Japan & Portugal sign an alliance against the Incans.
Incans start Knights Templar & Leo’s. You picked a bad time to tie up two core cities.
Japan & America sign an alliance against the Incans. What a war torn world we live in, at least it will help us catch up in techs.
Iroquis galley appears next to our coast.

Numid takes out an Gallic, in the first counter attack we’ve seen in a long time.

Carthage completes it’s marketplace. I’m happy to say I didn’t have to change any of my “wishful thinking” builds.:D
Carthage starts Hero Epic.

T14 (30AD)- Lose an archer & 2 horses but…………..
VS-15.JPG

I raze the city to give Sabratha some breathing room.

**Finally End of Turn Report**
*Military Report: 1 settler(still chilling in our capitol), 7 workers(& 14 slaves), 5 warriors, 2 archers, 5 horses, 6 cats, 14 numids, & an army.
*Celts are willing to give up all their money for peace(10g 0gpt). However they’re up Republic & Monarch which he “doubts” they’d accept. Our army is STRONG compared to them.
*The problem is that they were “doubtful” before I razed that last city. I thought they’d defiantly cough up at least one of those techs for peace, but no dice. I started preparing for “peace” and a government change. It’s up to you if you want to make peace yet, or keep punishing them. Keep in mind Japan is also at war with them so we have an ally without an alliance, but whatever we don’t get Japan might.
*With the need for constant reinforcements I wasn’t able to hold down our southern cities after moving troops out of them. We need some Numids down there, it’s only a matter of time before we see some Iroquois troops stomping through American lands after us.
*An Iroquois galley is about to drop off a unit or two next to Leptis Magna, I have an warrior & El horse there. There’s also an El horse that will be 1hp away from full strength next turn in Camolodunum.
*After you get rid of the resistors in Camolodunum, please please please starve it down.

Good luck!

This was a VERY WELL PLAYED set of turns! :goodjob:

Instead of  and  and :(

You did :hammer: then :ar15: then :hammer: again!!!!

And it worked!!!!

Assuming CT does not show up, it is my turn to :hammer:

It might be appropriate to wait 24 hours before "got it" just in case...

Please post suggestions, comments etc.

Up to you.

I have temples building in 3-4 border cities, but a couple of them need them. We can't lose anymore cities to culture flips, Boston/Seattle were out of the way & it hurt more to lose the Numid & Horse that were guarding it then the city as a whole. The rest of our new cities are our "core".

Knights templar is hitting the scene so we're going to start seeing Cavs & Pikes from everyone else. Celts don't have either of these so it's probably a good idea to take as much as we can before they get them.

We really, really, REALLY need to get out of despotism.

Don't sell archers short, their perfect builds in those 4-5 shield cities with barracks. Cheap, reliable when you just need that "one last attacking unit" or to pick of an injured unit out of a stack(so they'll stay in place), and their defensive bombardment really comes in handy(saved my ass a couple times). Just a difference in style of play I suppose.

As for the settler, I have no idea. I didn't think replacing Hadramentum was worth it while I was playing(it was just another city to defend, that wouldn't be productive for awhile). But now that they're not sending SoDs against us it might be worthwhile to rebuild it & stick a harbor/temple in there so at least we'll have some shore defensive.

Try to go easy on the whip, unless absolutly needbe. Our people are on the verge of rioting in nearly every city from how whip happy I was.

Looks like CT does not show up, so it's my set of turns then. Will try to play today or more lirely tomorrow.

I do agree with most what you written except archers. Since it was suggested to abandon Seattle (and Boston) and later you regretted this was not done (losing NM and horse to flip), I'll switch all archers to horses. Then we're even. And there is large room left for more whipping, just have to mm for that a little bit and wait a couple of turns. Also, we have to go somewhat heavy on settlers. Having more cities would not hurt.

The archers is just you being stubborn & not liking them for some reason. If this was pre-C3C I'd almost agree with you, but the defensive bombardment makes them a steal for only 20 shields. They're a great unit when used intelligently. Switching a 4 shield per turn city to a horseman doesn't make sence to me, but whatever it's your turns.

I never said I regretted not abandoning them just cause you suggested it, I said "losing the Numid & Horse hurt more then the city as a whole." If I could go back & do it again, I wouldn't abandom them either on the off chance that the RNG changes through my attacks & we don't lose them. At that point they weren't good productive cities, but down the road they're a jumping off point to America which we'll eventually end up at war with. Every city helps when we have like 6. How are we even again?

I didn't suggest not whipping because I don't like whipping. I suggested not whipping because our cities are borderline rioting already, and we need the long term production/money from them more then we need getting ANY single unit a couple turns faster. Whipping cities is shooting ourself in the foot at this point.

And does the fact that I didn't even use the settler we have not indicate anything? The only spot we have to put a city is where the first was razed. We're border to border on almost every side, there's not reason to build settlers right now cause there's nothing to do with them.

Not meaning to argue, I do agree with many points including archers to a certain extent. Guess I build horses and you build archers and then we would be fine. Except buidling more cities.

Since we are stuck in this small ugly peace of land for some time, the only way to win this game is to make use of every tile within our borders and even get some extra tax collectors or scientists. At present, there are very many tiles which are not worked by the citizens (I counted roughly at least 35). We may be able to hold the game in its current position and even survive to modern age. However, building more cities (roughly 6 or 7) and using every tile would allow us to expand and wage successfull war against our neghbors in the near future. The way it is now might be good for a Monarch or even Emperor level of game but not that particular situation we are in. More cities will allow us to win before modern times arrive.
