Warhammer unit request: Chaos Dwarfs & Hobgoblins

I don't think you'd need to do a mounted version as well though. If you wanted to be REALLY smart about it, you could do two versions of the same creation- a living version that gets upgraded to the dead version.

Yeah, both versions of the unit aren't really needed, I just thought I'd put it out there. However, I'd much prefer an axe-weilding Skeleton Warrior or a pikeman skeleton as an upgrade for the spearman skeleton than two versions of a liche priest.

@Mr. Do - I may be wrong, but I had thought the Liche Priests were still living. I thought I had read that through their necromancy they were able to preserve their life, even though their bodies deteriorated to a mummy-like state. Am I wrong about that?

You are correct, but for the purposes of discussing their physical appearance they look dead-ish ;) It's an evolution that would make sense in game-terms as well as background.

Liche priests all are dead-ish, when it comes to their looks (at least according to the official wh-site).
Well, here's the one I'm going to make for sure.

Some questions:
- is the skin colour ok (i assume that the withered skin of liche priests is grayish - like a dead human skin)?
- any other suggestions on colours?
- I haven't seen the headress from behind, so this one is just an assumption (is the headress correct)?
- what kind of magical attack should he have?
- should I drop the sword completely?

Suggestions are welcome :)

It looks excellent, but the backside of the headress looks a little silly. What if it was shaped like a horseshoe with the skull's back showing.

I think that the backside of that headress looks a bit weird too, but I don't really have a clue what should it look like - where are those who know something about these things

Anyhoo, here's a more 'generic' looking skeleton spearman (designed for vampire counts).

How's the civ-colouring here? And is the helmet a bit too shiny (I actually like the helmet being 'fresh and new' - like it's some sort of spoils of war from an unlucky enemy warrior :) )?
And should the shield be a bit higher in the arm?

Yeah, the shield looks it'd be almost dragged across the floor. Looks good otherwise, like the models I have on display.

Maybe the LP's headress could just connect with his shoulder garb? I think it's the big round curvature that makes it look a bit off, so if just flowed down it might be better.

To be honest, I haven't got a clue what you mean

[edit]: or do you mean, that the headress should flow down in the back too (like it does in the front)?

I liek this one; its a very good combination to go witht he hobgoblin shaman for an "enslavement" attack, where he magically brings the dead back to life to do his bidding; more undead units like this woudl be very neat :) (of course, so would hob-gobbo settlers and workers ;))

About the headdress for the Liche Priest - here is an image I've found which seems to give a good idea of how these headdresses were shaped

image10.jpg

It looks like the back just went down to shoulder level without curving in much, and then was pretty much just cut off. That being said, I don't think that the present design of the headdress makes the unit look bad, so if you don't want to change it you won't hear me grumbling.

As for the Liche Priest's attack, they seem to do a lot of chanting in the Warhammer game. So I would suggest an attack where they chant, and then skeleton hands come up and attack the enemy, like you had in the Tomb Swarm animation. Or perhaps an attack in which the Liche Priest chants and a swarm of scarabs or flies or something comes from his mouth and rushes over the opponent before dispersing, like what Imhotep did in the movie The Mummy.

Finally, as for the Sylvanian Skeleton, I agree with the comments mentioned about by others. At the very least, add some dried blood to the helmet if you want to keep it new and shiny, since I doubt any helmet of a fallen soldier would make it out of a battle without some blood. I'd also suggest moving the two spikes that you have on the spear shaft below the blade up to the base of the blade. I'm not too sure about the skull on the shield being civ colored, since Sylvania's civ color is deep blue and I think that would look odd, but it's a minor issue.

Yes, it's the curving in that I meant looked wrong. Gomurr's analysis seems good to work with.

And quick everyone, give aaglo more work to do before he goes back to the spectre and the LOTM guys realise the potential for an "army of the dead" type unit and snatch him away from us!

Wow they look great, both of them! I actually like the low shield, it makes him seem a bit wasted, which is a cool look for undead people.

Hi, here I've done some small tests.

Spearman:
- shield is placed higher
- shield colouring has been changed (to better I think)
- shinyness of the helmet has been brought down a bit
- spear edited

Liche:
- headress edited from the back; it's not propably what you mean/want/suggest, but I think it's pretty close now :)

They both look good to me. :D Can't wait to see them animated.

The spearman looks class!
The back of the Liche headdress look quite bare though, maybe add some stripes or something to it? Now it's just a big gold pot. ;)

Aaglo,

Have your ever considered making any Necrarch vampires? Since your Liche Priest looks quite like them already (loose Pharoh Hat, gain ragged mage robes and fangs...)

In addition - all your units are awe inspiring!

I agree with mrtn about the back of the headpiece, now that he mentions it. From what I've seen of headdresses like that, it seems like the stripes go around the entire thing.
