WARNING! Get your bottled water, bandages, guns, generators, whatever.

This is really going to suck.

Yea, Frankenstorm is about to send the northeast back to 1900.

Seriously? They just closed a number of other schools up in Boston, although I'm still planning on going to work tomorrow.

It actually doesn't seem like it'll be all that bad where I am according to weather.com. Maybe I'm wrong though.

We're prepared for at least a few days without power. I'm hoping it isn't needed though.

I can understand the concern in the Virginia to New York/Connecticut area, but none of the recent stuff I've seen puts the storm in Boston.

They can't be serious about the entire northeast likely losing power. No way. We'll be re-enacting Revolution in short order.

How do I know how badly that's going to affect me?

I know Riverhead as a whole is 13 feet above sea level, but I don't know for sure if my house in particular is, even though we're pretty close to the middle of town.

I guarantee we'll have riots here if there's no power here for a week. It'll be '77 all over again.

I confess I've done all of this. No work Monday and Tuesday! Well stocked with vodka and cigs, and hurricane party with hurricane cocktails prepared. And of course I've complained the entire time.

I'm not too worried about us in Jersey. We had Irene to give our emergency crews a wake-up call, and we already experienced a major power outage from the dereco our area had in June. I think we're prepared.

At the very least, we're in the middle of fall. Having no power on a hot, humid June day is no fun at all. I can take having no power when it's cold out.

As for danger, the only areas in real danger are the areas really close to water, such as around rivers and barrier islands. Wind and rain is no fun, but the flooding can get nasty. Outside of that, I don't think we're going to see a lot of damage outside of fallen trees and power lines. Since our weaker trees were culled by the dereco, it shouldn't be too serious.

The question is, will the homeless shelters be able to accommodate everyone?

If Boston is all good Eastern Long Island can't be too bad can it?

So that area is actually closer to where the eye of the hurricane might hit (although I thought it was supposed to land on the Maryland-Delaware-Virginia peninsula, could be wrong, though). Boston has all of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southern Massachusetts between it and the storm.

I'm thinking people are overreacting in the upper parts of New England, but the Mid-Atlantic should be taking necessary precautions.

But isn't the worst part of the storm Northeast of the eye? And last I checked the eye was going to cut through the middle of South Jersey.

Did the route get revised northwards? In that case, I'm marginally more concerned. However, I think that would put the strong wing of the storm right into New York and Long Island, Boston is still further north and has the Cape Cod peninsula to blunt the effect.

Disclaimer: I used to live in Georgia and Florida and I can't count the number of hurricanes I've been through.

Behold, a picture.

Small blessings that Sandy is only a Category 1 and not a 3 like Irene was.
