Weekend Specials Online

That is normal for the autumn sale, though yes the Holiday and Summer sales will no longer have daily and flash deals. I won't miss the flash deals, but I'm not expecting any amazing discounts during Steam sales though, and apparently Valve keeps the same sale prices from the Autumn sale for the Holiday one :(

GOG has a 50% discount on The Witcher III, which is pretty significant for such a comparatively recent game.

Correct me if im wrong, but GOG pricing is a little on the dubious side. They say its 50% off and i swear the price either goes up a day or two before the sale, or when the sale actually starts. So you are not really getting 50% off.

We have laws against stuff like that in the UK. If you are going to have a "sale price", then you have to have been selling it at the higher price for a period of "X" number of months. This is often why items for sale in the UK are special purchases at half price (like wine in supermarkets). Obviously you cant do that for computer games though.

The base price has been £50 for as long as I've been checking their site, so being sold at £25 is genuinely 50% off. In addition to that, they also give you store discounts based on regional price variations, which is pretty decent of them.

There's also 50% off Battle of Stalingrad, which I purchased, and 67% off Elite: Dangerous (only $15)

I don't know if I could recommend Battle of Stalingrad, while it is apparently an amazing simulator for the most part, the devs being Russian (or Belarussian? IDK same difference) have their heads stuck very, very far up their own bottoms when it comes to what they think the community wants, how to interact with and respond to them, and how to design the game... they have a weird focus on singleplayer despite the game not really having much for SP.

A friend of mine could rant endlessly on it for hours, his group mostly just went back to a modded Cliffs of Dover.

Yeah, turned out to be a bit less than I hoped for, refunded it and picked up Elite instead. I'll stick with Stalingrad when I can get the complete edition for $20 or less though.

The new sale mechanics are disappointing. Half of the fun has always been checking back every day to see what new things were deep-discounted. I assume the change was caused by the Steam refund system.

I'm in the crowd of people who prefer having flat deals throughout, as long as the deals are as good as they used to be. Right now I have to say, maybe the deals are a liiiiittle worse, but not that much different from what they've been in the past 3 years or so during the flash/daily deals. So I'm relatively satisfied... Except for those who increase their base price before the sale to offer a fake deep discount...

I think they could still find a way to make us come back every day, other than just sudden price drops, I do like that they showcase different games every day.

I never liked the gimmick of flash and daily deals. Especially since half the time this happened I happened to be away from home without easy access to the internet (christmas at backwards family without a computer in the house let alone internet... summer vacations... etc.). But it's not just that. I'm a bit of a everything-or-nothing kindda guy; gimme a deal, or don't. I have no time to waste for marketting corporate games of deal hunting.

Whereas Skyrim on Steam with all DLCs is just £5 right now (so, probably $7.50 or so).

I think it sucks. It was a little ridiculous when they did 2 items on flash sale every 4 hours (was it ever faster than that?) but they had gone to 4 items on flash sale every 8 or 12 hours iirc and that was perfectly manageable. Part of the daily deals was not just the thrill of seeing that game you wanted on sale, but also seeing a game you hadn't though of displayed prominently on the front page for the lowest price. Now their catalog is too big and I can't search through everything to find what I want that's on sale. I guess they still have features but it's not the same. It's not enough to get worked up over but just not as cool now.

I didn't buy anything. I want south park stick of truth, convoy and mad max but still feel those prices are too high.

Jade Empire is on the house off origin. I think someone here wanted to try it out, well here's your shot for free.

gog winter sale has already started, which seems weird cus they just had another thanksgiving sale or something like a week ago. Typical gog fare except that all the star wars sim games are in a bundle 60% off! Lowest price I have seen, think I'll pick them up. I have fond memories, I hope they don't let me down.

They had their massive autumn sale in October, then a brief "Thanksgiving/Cyber Monday" sale and now their winter sale? Good Lord.
