The Rise of The Spanish Reactionaries

Recently there has been a movement in Spain. Reactionary ideology is a political epithet typically applied to extreme ideological conservatism, especially that which wishes to return to a real or imagined old order of things, and which is willing to use coercive means to do so.
And coercive means were used as the Reactionary movement got ahold of the higher levels of the Spanish Government. All of the sudden there were military rallies in Madrid supporting a return to better times in which spain was the most powerful in the plannet. And the people were willing to support the use of force if necessary. And so in the early months of 1834, the spanish fleet set out to south america and with it a portion of the army. They moved quickly and got ahold of the governemnt offices and buildings. The Army of the viceroyalty did nothing but join the Spanish. The Viceroyalty was no longer a backwater puppet satellite of spain, it was now under full control of the Madrid government. The Elite of Peru did not even expect such thing, some escaped to the mountains and forests, but the country was re-occupied quickly and without much problem. The already low living standard of the local population was again brought to brutal domination.
The spanish movement to recapture its lost territories was not over yet, it would climax in a war against Argentina in which the spanish monarch said :
"(Argentina is) Merely a possession of the Spanish Crown temporarily occupied by a dastardly clique of bandits. And now, those bandits will be expelled."
The war started with the armies of former Peru, being forced marched to invade into northern argentina and Paraguay. La Armada del norte, as it was called, was still the horribly inefficient, badly led and untrained army that always was. And the spanish attempt to bring it up to spanish standards was simply hardly any help with such little time given the time table of invasion. The Argentinian Army of the north had a total of 7 divisions, from which were better trained, had knowledge of the terrain, were well supplied and whose morale was simply huge compared to the former peruvian one. The result was an almost clean victory for Argentina. Which proceded to not only defend, but even advance inside what it was now spanish territory.

Meanwhile the Spanish Fleet gained control of the sea destroying what was once one of the best fleets in south america completely. Details of how this was accomplished remain secret and the Spanish Admiralty refuses to give any information about such tactics.
After the water was cleared, the spanish landed and captured montevideo in the north and in bahia Blanca in the South. However the advanced slowed down as the Argentinian leadership had the bulk of the army to defend the capital (other than the army of north). This mean that there were close to 20 divisions holding back the spanish. Each front in the battle for argentina meant 2 against 1 in numbers. Leadership was similar and spanish training was only better enough to push a few miles. And so, as of December 30th, Argentina hangs in the balance as Spain is expected to land re-inforcements.

Japan was now as advanced as many of the western powers. The Meiji Era in Japan had begun...

In Hungary the Liberal movement continues as the leadership of the country is cleaned from corruption in what its president claims :
"The new crop of bureaucrats should espouse the view that the people should rule a nation, not monarchs or a wealthy elite."
This might be seen by its neighbors as somewhat antagonist in a continent of conservatives.
Vienna, South German Confederation
A new treaty designed to slow down hatred between the two german speaking nations has been signed. Mostly as means of defense, the South Germans started to increase trade and allowed unrestricted free trade on its border w/ its northern neighbor.

A new military unit that will be the model of a larger elite infantry force was seen in a special ceremony attended by the Czar itself. Experts claim that this is a sign that russia will start to better up its large army to be more effective in future diplomatic problems.
Elections in America!
New York, USA.
Being election year, there were two candidates to influence greatly the states. They were as following:
David Morrison, Governor of Virginia, Head of Economic Convention. Confederalist. Supports the intent of the articles of confederation. But also supports revamping them and making them more efficient. Slave-owner. Plantation-owner. Veteran of War of 1812. (Colonel, wounded three times.) Supports growth of industry. Was very popular in the South and somewhat unknown in the North prior to economic convention, but is now decently popular in the North. Has seen slight drops in popularity in South.

Henry Wadsworth. Senator from Delaware. Union Party. Supports Articles of Confederation but supports completely redoing them. Rich, elite. Offers no real opposition to David Morrison, other than being from the North. He is very popular in the North but hated in the South. Opposes slavery.
The Election results declared David Morrison as winner with a 62 to 48 percent of the votes. Surprisingly Henry Wadsworth remains very strong in the north. Morrison owes its victory to the current succes of the Economic Convention.
But problems arose soon after he entered the white house. The Governors of Luisiana and Oklahoma sent a message to him.

As a slave owner like us, you know that slaves are very expensive assets in the southern agricultural society. However there have been problems in the western border states with Mexico. Slave escapes continue to rise and we dont have the ability to get them back. over 7,000 slaves ran away this year alone and must be stoped. If something is not done, the Militia of our states will cross the border and get the slaves back with force. With little regards towards mexican law.

Rise of Liberalism and Militancy in Canada

Newspaper Le Canada continues to spread the words of freedom and separatism. Liberalism ideology has gone up and so has militancy. Despite government attention, nothing seems to be working. It appears that someone is working from the outside to get Canada to fall into civil war or rebel against the crown. Some point fingers to New York, some to Paris, but no one knows whose actions it is in reality... we will keep you informed.
French Imperialism is alarming to other powers.
Paris, France.
The French leader spent time observing the construction of what will become an academy for better training of officers and managers. Along with those in other careers of higher education. He also rebuilt the Imperial Guard of napoleon in Name. Commanded by Legendary commander Ney (who no longer comands in the front due to his age, but maintains leadership in the chain of command).
France would go to expand its holdings around the world, from africa to south east china.

New Mexican President.
Mexico City, Mexico
After recent elections, a new president will rule the nation for six years. He won w/ a record number of votes in the nations history. His campaign statement was the following:
"My Government will be based on two main policies; Economic Progress and Military Isolation, Mexico shall remain aloof from any wars not thrust onto her doorstep, whilst expanding her industrial and commerial networks across America and the Pacific".
A plan was signed with China for chinese immigrants to california, and that is expected to begin in full swing in 1835. There is also a lot of planning and construction being seen in its pacific coast. Problems appear as some of the militias from Oklahoma and Luisiana are seen too often on the northern border...
Hawaii was also incorporated by diplomacy and threats.
British expansionism
London, England
England spent a lot of money incorporating indian colonies that will soon eough bring great wealth. However the remaining indian kingdoms are wondering if they can unite to stop the imperial powers from taking their lands. But that is not a problem, men on elephants are no match for the great british colonial army. Along w/ mexico, some experts were sent to china to help it modernise.
The Self Strenghtening movement continues

The modernization program continues, however a few experts from england and mexico are largely even noticed in the huge lands of china and even larger population. For they to have some effect, the powers must spend money too. Chinese immigrants will begin towards mexico in a deal to work 5 years to pay back the trip. The immigrants would become citizens of mexico and remain in the west coast. or so it appears.
England seems to be helping with the idea that china will deliver some consesions when modernised.
Cold in Scandinavia
Scandinavia maintains readyness and the population is happy (if not rather cold too)
