In most of the list of civilizations that are written here, you forget most of the important civs of America (not North America, but all the continent).
Yes, the did justice putting in the Incans, the Aztecs and the USA, but: what about the mystical and intelligent Mayas? The comercial and religious civ of the Iriquois? The great Toltecs, whose culture founded the basis of the Aztecs? The Chibchas, and almost forgotten but important civ during the Middle Ages?
And... think about modern-times civs: Brazil is one of the most powerful nations in the world. The Mexican and Canadian civs shouldn't be forgotten.

And, if someday the put in Argentina, I will stop being atheist and believe in miracles...

Yes, these are all very interesting civs, but they just don't compare to Rome, Germany, an-african civ (Mali) or even the not yet included Ottoman Turks and Babylon!

It's not a question of discrimination agaisnt America, but one of priorities... :) After all, we have in the vanilla version only 18 civs.

mfG mitsho

The Mayas, the Chibcha, the Toltecs, the Olmecs, the Iroquois, the Pueblos and even the Haida, Inuit, Algounquins or Sioux would all be delightful, but as mitsho said, I am forced to agree that there are probably more...dare I say...'deserving' civs in the Old world.
I would, of course, be completely overjoyed at the inclusion of Canada (and yes, that alone would probably tilt my agnosticism strongly in favour of belief in God), but I usually mod them in anyway. I just hope someone is good enough to make a Prime Minister Trudeau leaderhead (preferably one that gives you the finger when he's angry)

How about the Anasazi? With special housing/defense benefits in the appeopriate terrain. Their towns were unassailable until the advent of cannons.
:)

Brazil is one of the most powerful nations in the world.

Umm, I really don't think so. Unless of course, in "world" you don't count North America, Europe, and large parts of Asia.

ANyway, I think the whole problem here is that

The Mayas, the Chibcha, the Toltecs, the Olmecs, the Iroquois, the Pueblos and even the Haida, Inuit, Algounquins or Sioux

What would these civs be? We have 10 total civs here from North America. It's not very PC to say, but most of these civs just don't compare to many of the others in the "Old" World like Russia, China, Japan, Mongolia, Mali, etc.

Also, with all these civs, it would probably be nearly impossible to make them different enough from the others to make them balanced.

Umm...this is exactly the point that I already made in my post which you just quoted

I think it's quite obvious but I'm going to say it anyway: the Native American civs were "original" civs that had profound history and unique cultures, where as countries (see how I don't use the term civs here?) such as Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, and other American countries are recent colonial creations undeserving of the status of being called a "civilization." America is the only exception, well, because it is America and this game is made in it.

You probably already know my opinion. And here it is worst. Canada being one of the 18 civ would be an insult. Even in the expansions (until the 6th expansion with 125 civ). HELLO!! How can CANADA be in while BABYLON (one of the greatest civ of ancient history, by the way) is lost somewhere, waiting in the waiting room for civ 4: xyz. What did Canada did so well while I was sleeping to night to be considered as a important enough civ to beat Babylon?
A little bit more on topic:These are civ3 vanilla civ:
-Rome
-Greece
-America
-Germany
-Aztecs
-China
-Japan
-India
-Iroquois
-Egypt
-Babylon
-England
-France
-Persia
-Russia
-Zululand
These are Civ 4 civ:
-America
-Arabs
-Aztecs
-China
-Egypt
-England
-France
-Germany
-Greece
-Inca
-India
-Japan
-Mali
-Mongolia
-Persia
-Rome
-Russia
-Spain
OK. Normally, we have 2 new civ (18-16). In my opinion, these are Spain, Mongolia or Arabs. Some have been replaced. Inca replaces Iros. Mali replaces Zulu. Then there is Babylon. It is just gone. It will come back some day. Hammurabi's contract has expired, and he is in Florida for 1 year. Or he plays in the NHL and is in lock-out. So they took Spain, Mongolia or Arabs and gave them a spot. There is a big sign flashing, it says "no Babylon, can't add a new civ!". Before they add any other civ, they must change a civ for Babylon. When Babs will be back, I want Algonquians, Inus, Inuits, and all those American civ.

a beg to differ a lil bit about the importance of native civs of america in comparison to old world civs...where were the mali's in the late periods of history(no disrespect just curious)...if the aztecs had occured earlier ..in spain for example..they would be considered a great ancient civilization..far more advanced then many countries in the old world even upon there discovery(the capital city was bigger then any city of europe at that time)...but i do agree that civs should be placed based on historical importance..but to label that importance because of location is kinda silly..(aztecs and incas and mayas would get my vote over america anyday). there emperial devolopment was slower then europes only because of the lack of compatition..

Eh, Mastertyguy? Why did you quote me? I think I clearly illustrated that I'm not pro-let-Canada-or-other-American-countries-become-civs.

but superkrest if you put the aztec in spain with a 1000 yr headstart they wouldnt be the aztec and new world civs were not even close 2 as important as old world civs

that wasnt a literal example i was just saying to ignore their importance because of geography just seems a little bit silly to me. im not saying that their empires were on the same grand feild with rome and greece and egypt etc..im just saying..had they also occured in such a rich enviroment for civilization.they would be equally important. i just feel that if your gonna have a repersenitive of the americas..it should be older civs not modern countries..(not to deny americas importance today...)
