What are you reading?

I'm going to start on Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline tonight.

I'm going to start on Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Céline tonight.

Are you reading it in French?

I tried to read it in the Greek translation, since i don't speak French. The Greek translation uses an endless amount of slang terms, which i gather was in an attempt to echoe the slang in the original French novel. However this caused me to just stop reading it, because the words were just utterly distasteful for me.

It's first sentence was very interesting though. Nice way to set up a novel :)

I'm reading it in Danish. Don't know French.

I don't care much about distastefulness. I've read a book about paedophile nazis which I kinda enjoyed. It was very graphic, mind you.

^That is slightly disturbing. Although I did like Stieg Larsson's books (in spite of the sex).
The Wasps. What an interesting read.
Onwards to Thesmoporiazusae!

I recently read the Foundation trilogy which was most fantastic.

The book's premise was actually excellent. It carried a sort of nonchalant nihilism where its protagonists sought to find some sort of meaningful counterculture, as it had all been embraced and utilized by corporations - punk is dead etc - they found that the only things that provoked anymore was paedophilia and nazism, so that's where they went. Then the book made a couple of good observations and the characters were interesting.

That said, the execution was kinda poor. It wasn't that well-written and the author included an unnecessary gangster plot thing. Additionally, the author had been very aware of the contents in question and at times attempted to outgross the reader pointlessly. I have nothing against grossness, but it has to have a point. The ending was marvellous though.

I don't think the author is neither a nazist nor a paedophile, I merely think he chose that framing because it framed his point well. It's not a book for the faint of heart though, as it does have quite graphic depictions of paedophile and hebephile abuse. I'm not sure whether it's available in English though.

Here ya go. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2638778-macht-und-rebel

Onwards to Thesmophoriazusae!

Oh no.....................

I actually have not "read" that, but i had the bad luck to come into contact with a comic version of it, when i was 12. Yeah, it helped a lot. Particularly the Law that stated any man willing to have a sexual relationship with a woman he is attracted to, should be forced to first have that relationship with one of the ugly and lonely women :/

I still recall how some of the latter were drawn in that comic

Maybe it's because I'm tired of the obsession with nazism many authors seem to have, but I'm not that into this.
