Title says it all. Looking for recs:

Have read already:

Lost to the West by Brownworth
The Byzantine Empire by Oman
Belisarius: The Last Roman Genera by Hughes
Secret History by Procopius

Egypt, Greece and Rome by Charles Freeman is an excellent introductory book relating to those three cultures and even has a small section about the later Roman Empire.

it all depends if you wanted to read primary or secondary sources, what period, what language etc.
Ostrogorsky's history of Byzantium is a classic, but it is very old and may be dated in some aspects. There are many more recent authors, like Mango.
I really enjoy Runciman's works. His Fall of Constantinople 1453 is something I like in particular, although I've heard some criticism of it, as he draws much out of questionable primary sources etc.

I would recoment John Julius Norwich's book A Short History of Byzantium, for a good overview of the major power politics of the empire, as well as clear stories about thier multiple wars, diplomatic arrangements and emperors.

Recomend Twelve Byzantine Emperors podcast by Lars Brownworth - it's free.

I second this. Lars Brownworth is a great speaker and is never boring.

What aren't my must reads on the Byzantine Empire? :ack:

I'm reading this one as we speak.

I only read some greek titles, but you should pm Squonk, he is doing his thesis on the Byzantine Empire and can help :)
Wonder if he'd be willing to post that at some point?

Don't read Norwich. Read Treadgold instead.
