What art does FF need?

updated preview of archmage.

I've added the medallion on the front. I also made a little belt bag, like in the picture. That's a custom mesh.

I'm still struggling over the staff, though. Those staff ideas do look nice, but not quite suited to an Austrin mage. They look a bit too.... refined. Symmetrical .Well crafted. I'd kind of expect an austrin mage to carry something more rough and well worn. I'd definitely appreciate any pictures of staffs which fall into that category.

My workspace in blender is looking like a real horrowshow at the moment. You might notice in the background, severed heads everywhere. Theres also a headless body over to the right, just out of the screenshot

The face is fairly obviously a photofit from the last picture that Vehem posted. This is a skill I've recently aqquired. Though it's a little more involved than simply pasting in the image. Generally, the face UV has to be tweaked to match the texture. Especially in this case as he has an open mouth, where the great prophet had a closed mouth. If you look at the floaty head over on the left, you can see another example I was playing with. That''s the same texture, but a different UV layout. I can essentially change facial expressions through this. I could probably even make his mouth close without altering the texture, though it might look strange.

I don't know of any feasible way to change the textures or uvs ingame though, so making models with animated faces isn't feasible, in case anyone was thinking that.

Do I talk too much? Does anyone enjoy reading little technical details like this? maybe I help someone learn.

Sick. Your units make me wanna play austrins. Bloody highlanders

Hey WarKirby, here is art I found that you may like for a new D'Tesh model. The artist was not listed, I found it in a module for undead by Strategyonly. Sezereth's undead art was used but I could not find the individual model in the downloads.

This model is already in use for the Wraith Death III summon.

True, minus the hourglass! Surely it is better than the lich model being used right now?

I'd disagree personally/. D'tesh Is a lich. an undead sorceror.

the current lich model is lacking in uniqueness, but it's more suited than a reaper, I think.

Give it wings and a huge sword!

Alright, no rush to get the artwork done, but just letting you know before you start working on it:

Scrap the whole CoE design I came up with(Empyrean is still good though). I just had a game as the Lanun with a KILLER assassin. That Assassin singlehandedly conquered three civilizations and killed Hyborem(I did use Raging Seas to help him out, but no other units assisted in Hyborem's death. Not even an adept to buff the Assassin). Anyway, I want to make the CoE hero a tribute to him. So, just make the CoE hero look like the Lanun Assassin, only make the clothes dark grey with blood red and black accents.

well, technically, it's easy. but having some trouble design wise. The Lanun assassin is allready pretty grimdark. color scheme of deep reds and browns. not sure what to change to make him much different..

I was thinking replacing all the red with dark grey and the browns with black. Only the trim of his clothes/hat would be red, which would be a brighter, deeper red then the current colors. Also, maybe something to change up the hat a bit... Maybe some sort of slouch hat at at a different angle? Right now his hat sits perfectly horizontal on his head, if it was changed to 30% or so that might make it look more unique.

How close is this to what you were thinking?

Also, once it's done, ca I just give you the texture? will you know what to do with it, or should I supply the full unit folder?

A small suggestion: probably replace that buckle on his head with a small CoE symbol and change his face from bearded to wearing a face veil.
Would it be nice? I think it'd make him more unique (though he would look like a bandit from some western :D).

Looking good. I agree with Deon, having a veil covering his face would indeed make him look more unique.... I'm not sure I like the CoE symbol though(It is supposed to be a hidden religion after all, and as an assassin he needs to be more sneaky). I still want something done with the hat... Just not quite sure what.

I'm thinking about giving him +1(2?) Body Affinity and a bonus against demons(sort of odd for a CoE hero I know, but like I said, I'm making him a tribute to an awesome assassin in my most recent game. That guy killed Hyborem on his own). As far as giving me just the texture, I wouldn't know what to do with it, though I would like to learn.

The veil is no problem. I can just mug a passing hippus horseman. Nobody will miss him ;)

I'll try tilting the hat forward as you suggested, though these two changes will require a new .nif anyway so I might as well give you the whole unit folder.

If you're thinking of affinity, I'd suggest Shadow, not Body. Shadow mana is what you get from the CoE shrine.

If I gave you just the texture, all you'd have to do is drop it into the unit's folder. You'd need the rest of the files for the lanun assassin though, which assumes you have the .fpks unpacked. I have them all in a big directory :D

How do you unpack .fpk files? I've been trying to do that for ages(mainly to borrow .dds from other mods) >.<

As far as the body affinity, I was going to do that because the assassin I'm basing him off of was Aeron's Chosen. Maybe both shadow and body affinity? Or would that be too powerful...

:O

I think I might use the first one....

Also, onionsoilder (shouldn't it be soldier? )
How does this look. Updated assassin preview. I've tilted the hat to conceal his face more. It also casts a shadow, making it difficult to discern his face even at close range. Darkened clothes, added a facemask, desaturized boots.

The HoM&M one? It looks a little like the Kahdi one...

I'm actually thinking of using him as a second CoE hero in FF. Wouldn't be quite the same as Onion's version, but should make CoE a little more attractive in general.
