What art does FF need?

Thank you :D

Quite a lot of my things have been various derivatives of others. The dwarven champion I made recently was the most original thing I'vedone so far, using relatively little from other things.

I do some stuff for FFH now and then too. And will continue to do so, even if kael doesn't use them. He never mentioned anything about the dwarven champion or griffin that I did, and never used those. But FF is mainly what I play, so it doesn't bother me much.

I have a question, actually. I've noticed that quite a few models from you have rotated bones. The bannor champion and warrior, also the dwarven warrior. their wrists are different from the base models whose anims they use. How do you rotate a bone like that ?

I dont rotate bones. maybe I rotated the handvertices in the mesh :) ?

Orks is da biggest and da strongest

Would like to show everyone what I made today. Since it's not directly related to any new features we're working on, I'm sure the team won't mind.

Unlike FFH, Orcs in FF still have champions. And proper champion art.

However, I've felt the champion art we already had, was a bit lacking. See the second picture for how it used to look.

There are a few things wrong with it.

1. He's not green. !!!!1111one
2. He's scrawnier than a fieldmouse. It doesn't look so bad when he's hunched over in a combat animation, but he's still unfittingly skinny for an orc.

So, I set out to correct these things. See the first picture, our new Orcish Champion art. Bigger, spikier, and orkier than ever before.

I increased his muscle mass carefully, to a massive extent. He's been injecting pure body mana. I also made his armour bigger and heavier, as well as changing the shape of the shoulders. I added quite a few more spikes, and also you might notice, the first Orc in erebus that has hair! A barbaric looking ponytail on an otherwise bald head. I've always thought this style looked good on an orc, kind of an exception to the rule that they should normally be bald. His scale will be slightly bigger than other orcs, so he'll tower over them on the battle, and especially those puny humans. He's still a bit smaller than an ogre though.

And of course, he's now green.

Also, probably important to nobody but me, I optimised the heck out of him. He now uses 16 less textures than before, and is all combined into one neat mesh aside from the weapon. his nif is also no longer broken, so editing him is actually possible without hours of cleanup work first. I like things to be as efficient as possible.

This art wil be in 0.51

Much better...much more intimidating

Since 0.51 is now released, I thought I'd share some pics of the general art I've done

First up, the Bannor Captain. For this, we decided to maintain some visual uniformity with the bannor forces, but at the same time make him more distinct. So I chose to use seZereth's excellent bannor champion as a base. But added a face visor, a regal red cape, and gold trim all over the armour

Next, the Dwarven commander. I used the Dwarven Champion I made, as a base for this. He has extravagant gold armour and a diadem, reflecting his status. The general theme was a "warrior king" look. Some ingame shots are included here, so you can see just how shiny that armour is (yay for gloss maps :) )

Lastly, the Chislev Warchief. He opposes the evil greenskins with their own tactics, brute strength! He's over 7 feet tall and towers over the rest of the warriors, thanks to a bit too much time around raw body mana. The Warchief has more direct combat strength than any other commander. He carries a massive obsidian spear engraved with runes of Orc slaying.

Also known as Vehem in unit form :)
If I had to pick, the warchief is the one I'm most proud of. Considerably more work than anything I've done recently.

See - despite all the complex and technically innovative work that's been done DLL-side, the tweaks, features and content added through XML and the python driven mechanical stuff we've created - I still get more excited by having pretty models to play with :D

These really are some very, very nice work WarKirby :goodjob:

Duh. The tweak and whatnot make every thing work...but you can't SEE them.
But yes, nice art, I too like to Warchief most of all.

Nifty quick photoshopping :)
Oddly enough, my avatar was a sephiroth picture for quite a long time. Haven't updated it recently. Might do so.

The apple headed bannor is amusing.
Xienwolf in unit form though.. It's more likely than you think ;) (won't look like that though)

Do you want art bugs here? or in bug thread?

I am getting a pink Dancing Bear Icon button spell cast thingie. That count as Art? Certainly only cosmetic.

Malakin Archers look like 3 red blobs... like the 3 wigwams for a beduin Sit? but no skin on it? very strange. Again Cosmetic only

k future stuff will go there.

okay I have no idea how do the thumb nail thing so pic of Malakin Archers in spoiler tag

Spoiler :

I know the red blob issue. You don't have to post pictures of it :)

just saying "this unit is a red blob" is enough info. The cause is always the same.

great stuff Kirby!
and great joke Vehem ;)
The Warchief looks awesome, while a littel bit tooo much like actual natives because of the typical headdress.
But thats just my opinion ;)
Keep up the great work!

So, on the new art frontier - can we get distinctive buttons for the Jousting Tilt, Training Field, and Barracks?

None of them look like anything but an open field...
