Yeah I trouble getting into the omniscient-psycher-impending-doom bit of the opposition from the start of this book. Like was it a metaphor for death or something? Kind of a personal let down for me after Dune.

I've recently finished Socrates Cafe and Why Evolution is True and am moving onto A People's History of the American Revolution.

Pistol, the Biography of Pistol Pete Maravich

Gotta get something to take my mind off of teaching

Wodehouse's Carry On, Jeeves and How Right You Are, Jeeves, followed by Chris Brooke's overview Europe in the Central Middle Ages, 962-1154. Finished the Eicher book while in Pennsylvania.

Well now that's out of the way, I can focus on Colossus by Niall Ferguson. He takes an objective approach to the subject of American Empire and dares to suggest that American imperialism may be good for the world... if the people are willing to put the necessary effort into it.

I haven't read that book, but Niall Ferguson is known for being anything but objective when it comes to both the British and American empires.

I'm reading Cell by Stephen King and have Narz cast in my mental picture of the protagonist, for some reason

The Afghan Campaign, by Pressfield

You mean the Odyssey?
Might be Xenophon's Anabasis. Neither is boring, though. :dunno:

As it happens, I've gotten through the Wodehouse books, but got sidetracked into Ed Bonekeeper's A Victor, not a Butcher, a command history and evaluation of Sam Grant.

He said "Greek" so that narrows it down a bit...:p

The Descent by Jeff Long

Not too good but not that bad either. I borrowed it as a horror story but found out that it was a mixed bag with difficulties to decide whether it's scifi or fantasy. Perhaps the biggest flaw in the book was the character motives - very few things in the story seem to make any sense from their perspectives. Maybe 2 / 5.
