Most of us came here for the Civilization, even if we spend most of are time away from the Civ forums.

I was introduced to the series through Civ III. I remember when I was ten years old seeing a friend play it and decided I wanted to get the game. When it was installed onto my old computer I was instantly addicted. I didn't even know there were expansions to Civ 3 or that that there was even a fourth game. I discovered CIV a few years later and although a good game, it just isn't as fun as the third. I bought CiV the day it came out and enjoyed it, but once again, it isn't Civ III. One day I'm going to have to get around to buying games one and 2.

Civs 4 and 5 will likely have the most players in here, and some people probably don't play Civ anymore.

I got stated with Civ 1 - played it like a maniac when my friend first introduced me to it in the early 90s.. 92? When I upgraded my computer I was finally able to play civ 2, then moved on to civ 3, civ:ctp, then at some point alpha centauri and colonization. Then of course the best civ ever came out - civ4:ctp and I played that for YEARS exclusively.. and I mean exclusively - it'd be the only game I ever played. Since then I've veeeery slowly adapted to civ5. Now that they finally have Poland and a bit more gameplay elements, like religion, I've been able to get into it.

For a moment, I got excited and thought "Wow, do the people of this forum play Civilization? That's so cool!" Then I remembered what site I'm on.

I play CivIII and CivIV. The former is probably no surprise to anyone who's ever read my sig. I started with Civ3 more than a decade ago now (gosh, that sounds like a long time), and for most of the first two years it was my most-played game. I picked up Civ4 on release, and played it a lot the first year after release. But I could never get into it like Civ3. In 2007 I joined CFC, and very shortly thereafter, switched back to Civ3 (my first posts here are about Civ4). Civ3 was once again one of my most-played games for a few years. BTS eventually redeemed Civ4, and I now played both Conquests and BTS. Each one has its advantages.

I picked up Civ5, but not on release, and don't play it often. I played the G&K demo in May, but I'm not sure when I last played the full game. Whereas, I played a Civ3 game earlier this month, and played quite a bit of Civ4 in the spring. So, I voted III and IV.

Sometime I do plan to get around to Civ2, but that hasn't happened yet.

I was introduced to the series with II, although I went back to fool around with I a little bit. I played the hell out of III and IV, all the expansions, and modded extensively for them. I own V, but I've never gotten into it and haven't played it in months.

So I marked II, III, and IV in the polls--that was my Civ trilogy.

Civ4. I started with vanilla Civ3 but despite playing the crap out of it, I it never really clicked with me (and I was too young to really understand what was going on). Civ4 just clicked with me.
I've played Civ5 a bit, but it doesn't work that great on my laptop, it feels a bit clunkier than Civ4 (such as splitting cash/research into two separate things instead of just commerce), and I can't get my mods to work on it.

I have been a mindless slave of Sid Meier since Civ 1. Actually since before that, with the original Pirates and other grand Microprose titles of the 1980s.

Out of the main Civ series for the IBM PC and compatibles I've spent an inordinate amount of time playing them all, the ones I've sunk the most time into over the years are #2 and #4. Only recently started getting properly into #5 with the expansions, mind you. Alpha Centauri which is inexplicably missing from the poll has also been a time sink of Biblical proportions.

Never played the console thing, nor the Call to Power spinoffs.

I started with II about 6 months before III came out. I generally play the latest version, so it is mostly V right now.

Got started with Civ IV in 2007/8, played the hell out of it (2 years of straight playing, like every day).

Now I play Civ V, not nearly as many hours as IV, but 700 is still a lot.

Play now, or used to play? :undecide:

I voted all I played a lot of: 2, 3, 4, and 5. Currently I have 4 and 5 installed and am always down to a fiftychat :mischief: CFC: OT civ4 game.

These days I play both 4&5 quite often. In the past I've played 1,2&3.

I currently play 4 (BtS with Legends of Revolution mod) and 5 (G+K). They are different enough that I still enjoy both of them. I own Civ 3 but don't like it and haven't played it for a long time. My all time favourite was SMAC.

It's strange. III was the one I first encountered - after deciding it was time I actually took a look at what video gaming was about (I think I rather regret it now. It's all a bit of a waste of time, perhaps). I played it a very great deal - in the process, alarmingly, making my long distance vision deteriorate (although it may have been going to decline anyway).

I expected IV to be an improvement. But it's just more of the same. And in the end, I think I preferred III.

Still, I think I've played the whole thing out by now (as far as I'm concerned). It's, in the end, just a generic race game. I do very occasionally pick it up again. And I've a copy of I and II which I might try out seriously one day (I have peeked at them). Though I doubt it.

In the final analysis, the Civilization series is just a glorified board game. And, to be honest, I find the graphics just a little bit too gay.

I've no desire to explore V, atm. Especially since you have to register the thing on line.

Spoiler :
The opinions expressed in this post are entirely the author's own, and in should in no way be taken as a criticism implied or otherwise of either the Sid Meier franchise itself or of people who play it. Nor of the gaming community in general. In any shape or form whatsoever. Amen.

That said, if at some time in the next two or three hundred years, someone developed a fully immersive, multi-dimensional, interactive version of the series, I'd be extremely interested to give it a go.

I still play Civilization III, though I also own CIV. (I start a lot of games in it, but rarely finish them.) I'm tempted to get CiV, and will eventually, but I can only connect one computer to my DSL, and hauling my gaming rig into the room with the equipment is just too much of a bother for steam or the online activation. That's the same reason I've never gotten Mafia 2 or GTAIV...

(Of course, GTAIV is also poorly optimized for PCs, from what I've read.)

That's the question :yup:.

Began with Civ2 Ultimate when I got it as a present around 14, bought Civ3, 4 and the expansions for 4 later. The latter could have ruined my studies, but gladly didn't.

But what do I currently play...none of them, for at least 2 or 3 years now.

Oh what was that?

There is your answer ;)

Civ4. Haven't playied Civ2 since at least a decade. Civ3 not since.. oh I don't know, been a while. Still playing Civ4, though now that I could finally play the game I always wanted (be referred to the freaking amazing awe-inspiring graphics paging feature of C2C (read C2C, not C3C)), I feel my interest is running pretty dry.
I got CiV for Christmas last year, haven't tried it so far and now I am waiting for the expansions to become dirt cheap before I'll do.
