What Civilization Games (if any) do you play?

Haven't played Civ 4 in over a year now. I still play Civ 5 sometimes with multiplayer as (when its working) its the best civ in the series for a multiplayer experience. AI for Civ 5 was just so poor its not really fun though to play it singleplayer.

I got started with Civ in 5th grade when my dad bought me CivIII. I loved that game, even though I was terrible at it (worse than my brother who was four years younger than it). Very good times, too. I stopped playing it when I got CivIV in eighth grade, and I also enjoyed that just as much, and as a few forum members here may remember I enjoyed it so much I got into modding it.
I haven't played those in about two years, though I on rare occasion have started a Civ3 game for the lulz - it still has a lot more sentimental memories for me since I was younger and it was kind of there bridging the gap between childhood and adolescence.
I do play Civ5 now and then, which is why it's the only one on the poll I selected, but nowhere near as religiously as Civ3 or Civ4. I'll probably play more of tt when BNW is at least 50% off on a sale. It otherwise isn't as fun for me these days - certainly this was due in part to the original Civ5 not being to my taste, but I felt that G&K and BNW definitely improved to the game to the point where I can enjoy it, but ultimately I think I just prefer different sorts of games these days

The first Civilization game that I played was CivNet, which was a Windows 95 port of Civilization with some online multiplayer mode added. The next one I played was Civilization II: Test of Time, which was one of my most played games. A few years later I got Civilization III Gold and later Conquests, and then Civilization IV and both expansion.
I play Civilization V with both expansions occasionally. I will probably play it more once I get a computer that can run the game better than my current computer. I was going to wait to buy the game in a final box set, but when the Game of the Year version came out, I thought that was the final version. Afterwards, the expansions came out.

make the game very different? I haven't bought any DLC since 2011 and I'm not going to get too much into it until I get caught up.
I really want to play The original Civ, I had a math teacher a while back who had played it since the '90s and was practically an expert at it (and he was unaware that there were already 3 other civ games). I remember how I could waste class time talking about Civ to him, it sounded like one of those fun old games you pick up and play every once and a while. Maybe it could go on Steam someday.

If you haven't played civ in a long time or have lost interest, then chose "None." For instance, I had stopped playing

for years and then decided to play it again relatively recently.On the plus side, I still boot up all three (II, III, and IV) from time-to-time to play (ordinary games in IV, the Conquests scenarios esp. Rise of Rome and Middle Ages in III, and a handful of random stuff in II), although currently my retro game of choice is smackity-smack-smack-SMACX.

C3C Rise of Rome multiplayer version is rad.
I never got into their Fall of Rome, but I loved the Rise of Rome's customized tech tree and felt really let down by the IV version of the scenario. Same thing with the Charlemagne scenario in IV, the map was too small and so many pre-existing cities were missing. III's scenario had great scope and unique tech paths that kind of made up for the lack of options on the government side (since everyone was basically a Despotism or a Monarchy, there might have been a Republic as well but I don't remember it).
PBEM or hotseat? I'm fine with both, but hotseat can be quite the party event.

I started with Civ III. After I'd played it for a couple years someone gave me Civ II. I played a couple games, but never really got into it. I stilled preferred Civ III over Civ IV until I discovered mods. I got Civ V, but did not play many games of it. The mods were not so great last time I checked. The only computer game (other than things like Solitaire) which I now play is my modmod of the FfH2 mod for Civ IV.

Hotseat works surprisingly well with that one. I wonder if it would work well if you have like a dozen folks over and 3 to a team so any one of them could pick it up at any point.

If you haven't tried out Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire by primordial_stew, I would highly recommend it.
