What Civilization Unit do You Miss The Most?

The Dutch Swiss Pike Mercenaries. Bring those across as say strength 8 and you could walk through armies of knights, just as they did historically.

Chinese riders, free ancient cavalry and those fort building crusader knights were great fun too. Having bad memories about dromons sinking my galleys, can't say I miss those.

Well, Landsknechts does a good job like that, else, Papal Guards in Charlgemagne mod. Although I agree, they are awesome ;)

I miss getting Mech Inf. with LABOR UNION!!

Alpine Troops and good ol' Fanatics! Aaah, the glorious days of Fundamentalism... :mischief:

Oh yes, Fanatics...

Alpine Troops and Caravans!! And adding my settlers to cities, although, that's more of an ability than a unit...

I also miss my Phalanx holding their own against a Battleship waaaaaay back in the day. Is it wrong that spears beat a modern marvel? Yes, but it felt good!! Ahh, the good ole days..... (Do I still have CIV I and a 386 somewhere?:p )

CIV I comes for XP with the Chronicles pack (Civ I, II, III and IV, expansions for II and III).

Civ 3 Privateer. Put 2/3 near a barb settlement and watch your navy steadily growing.....

Arh, the civ3 privateers. Mean motherf****rs, were they. Especially in the new world map...

They Mayan Javelin Thrower from Conquests with it's enslavement ability.

Mhm, combined with SACRIFICES! :mischief:

I miss the partisans & fanatics from Civ 2. How nasty to conquer a city and have fantics destroying everything nearby!

I also miss the Howitzer... though it was way too powerful!

I miss the F-15 for the American civ

Howitzers were so nice. Maybe a bit too good, though, but as long as you get there first...

What about battleships that could kill city garrisoned units? ^^
not when it's defended by a phalanx!

:spear: Once lost one to a warrior...

I miss the barbarian diplomats!! Good easy 50$!!

I miss the ability of trireme to try sailing in the ocean (and often sink, by the way).

And, first of all, I miss those hilarious smiles that enemy leaders showed you when proposing a peace treaty, in CIV1. :)

The trireme thing was nice, but wouldn't really fit in in CIV 4, I am afraid. Haven't noticed smilies in Civ I? I always kill off the enemies early or leave them be, so maybe thats why :P

I miss the CivIII infantry the most.
civ3_infantry.gif

It was just a little more universal than civIV's. Now all civs infantry look like Americans with M1s!

Agree, wonderful unit. Would kick riflemen out of the scene at any given day of the week.

Hehe, didnt play any other civ in civ2, really loved the babylonians (inspired by the hanging gardens way before i even knew what Civilization was). Too bad they didnt quite live up to the standards in Civ3 and Civ4 :(

Nah, in Civ 3 they were okay, its just civ4BtS that does it, theyre really bad now :(

I kind of miss the Radar Artillery (Which is actually a M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System) that was in Civ3 :(.

I miss the transport helicopter, which can bring my axemans guarding my capital to the front line...

Aye, fundamentalism solved a lot of problems back in the days :king:

It reduces science by 50 percent but you can expand and build so much with it that it hardly matters and you gain it all back anyway.

I miss the diplomat from Civ II if I remember the name correctly.

I loved bribing away enemy units and sneaking nukes into cities to explode them anonymously.

And didn't barbarians used to at least give you a chance to bribe them first?
That came in handy sometimes.

Hah Crom laughs at the idea of paying off the barbarians.

I miss the Ironclad from CivI and the fact that you could use it to attack foreign units on shore without even bothering to declare war.

Gunboat diplomacy at its finest :D

Transport helicopter, for sure.

Oh and its not really a unit per se but I really, really, really, really miss the Enslavement and Sacrifice functions from civ3. Whipping with the slavery civic isn't quite the same.

Plus ranged bombardment.

Even with mods, not all of these functions have been replicated in a satisfactory way in civ4. In particular sacrifice (there's one for unit enslavement but it doesn't work very well for bts).

Food caravans!
Those things were awesome. I wish they bring them back at some point. I dont see what is unrealistic about them either! There are loads of cities throughout the world which are built in the silliest of locations considering the food resources in the surrounding areas. Los Angeles and Las Vegas, both new cities, spring to mind. Lots of cities in the gulf too like Kuwait City just run on imported food..
and like another poster stated......terraforming workers/settlers...those guys were awesome.

I kind of miss the Radar Artillery (Which is actually a M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System) that was in Civ3 :(.
I don't believe I ever built a Radar Artillery in the CivIII epic game - the basic Arty was broken enough for my purposes.

I do sorta miss the CivII Partisan and the PTW/C3C Guerilla. They weren't terribly useful, but they sure were cool.
