What civs do you want in Civ 5 - Updated list

Oh. The Celts do seem good, but they don't really fill up a gap, and I'd place 3 Europe civs in front of them.

Well, I'd argue the female leader could be something that's been missing with DLC, which could be a motivation. Maybe an argument for an ancient warmonger civ? Although I guess you have the Aztecs. Really, I think Carthage is a good choice and I think they would logically go together in a pack (Punic Wars or Rise of Rome scenario, maybe call it a Rome's Enemies pack).

There already is Isabella, no? But I like the Rome pack idea- it could include the Etruscans and Celts, too.

Good point, but I still feel an imbalance would develop pretty quickly after. Boudica might be the only plausible one left. Plus, I think Gaelic sounds really cool (OK, that's a stretch, but that's honestly one reason I'd want them).

How well is the Etruscan language known? That's a big argument against them (also, the likely chosen leader would be Tarquin the Proud, who would be a terrible choice). I'd argue that, when you consider empires at the time, Etruria was a bit of a lesser power. At the height of Etruscan power, Carthage essentially controlled the western Mediterranean, Athens controlled the Aegean, Persia was Persia. I'd argue Syracuse was at least as powerful as the Etruscan League. The Celtic culture spread from Spain to Bulgaria, so it's at least geographically impressive.

But the Etruscans are cool, so if they were to be included, I wouldn't complain.

You mean, One Cl-AM!! EST.

Celts are just a bunched group of highly distinctive tribes from the Iron Age and sooner - so don't try giving them more importance than they actually had, LouisXXIV.
It's just that the British isles are being presumed as having been inhabited by a distinct culture all the way before the Ice Age without proof. It's a myth.

And the more historians dilute 100's of different (which aren't that much, btw) central European origins, the more they're making fools of themselves.
What Romans (But not by Greeks, strange isn't it?) found in the Northern coastal areas is some Barbarian Camps to make a Civ analogy. Let's up the ant with Norse or Denmark isthmus while making a sharp turn towards Iceland & Labrador - shall we?

Now if you want to speak Maya or Inuit - i'm listening - since they were sooooo remotely mysterious that it begs a question; Who should we rationally consider for true or isolated enough England ancestors?

Mammoth hunters or Druids gathering around the local stones (Henge) without carved inscriptions as evidence?

You might as well put Assyria, Persia, Babylonia, Mesopotamia (and plenty more!) in the same bucket as what you're doing with the Celtic "Race". Whereas Saxons represented a clear schism of not only Language but highly debatable geographical migratory patterns.

52 minutes too soon.
@Louis: Yeah, I was just considering them as an enemy of Rome. I really want Phonecia though, so that's why I want a Mediterranean pack. But who knows, you could have a Rome vs. Barbarians scenario.

Phoenicia will be interesting, although they are currently represented by not one, but two current City States. However, inclusion of either Carthage or Phoenicia would make modding easier, since you could recycle the same audio files (dialects differ, but it is at least the same language).

BTW, if we were dealing with a blank slate, I probably wouldn't be arguing for the Celts. But, since they've been included in every Civ game since at least Civ2, I think it's sooner or later that they'll be included anyway and would find it fun to have Carthage and the Celts next.

No, we are only getting inspired by Pouakai's list in post #1.
While trying to be as "accurate" as possible given the probabilities - since Celts are there too.

@Save_Ferris,
Certainly... Sumeria, Hittites (etc) are rightfully other "regional" groups from the generalistic Mesopotamia_Anatolia range. As does Arabs, by some extension.

So - knowing the above, what should we make of these;

Prussia, Bulgaria, Austria, Hungary & Huns? Epochs or historical traces?

Give me: Canada!!!!

I laughed when I saw your post, because I once played an Earth map where Augustus Caesar (your picture) was based in Canada. The problem with Canada, however, is that it's never been a world power (yet ;) ) and the only people who want are Canadian, less than a fourth of civ players.
@zyxpsilon: I would like to see Austria and Hungary in a game, but combined. However, Vienna and Budapest are already city-states. And for the sake of historical significance, I prefer Prussia over Poland. I used to be against civ overlapping, but when you think of polynesia, then you focus on significance.

Everybody's already mentioned the Norse/Vikings (I prefer to call them the Norse. It just sounds more accurate to me), so I'll go with the Celts. Honestly, I'm surprised that neither have been released as DLC yet.

What problem exactly was that?

You mean to tell us that everything listed in this very thread were or still are World Powers?
Get real.

Privately financed Northern Light is shooting for Mars - as early as next year.
We don't care much about the local orbit & its satellite - but, somehow contribute through associative partnerships.

Virgin's Richard Branson can always sell plane tickets to the stratosphere (Which reminds me - i invested too in Command & Conquer!) if he wants to, Thoth on the other hand will somehow chase Spirit & Opportunity rovers while trying to detect Beaver crash site on our way down.
