What do you do at work?

For the next few months, I'm a research assisstant, helping a professor write a book on ethnic political interest groups.

As such, I get to do a lot of my work from home. Over the weekend, I sat with my data, two bigass copies of Congressional Quarterly, a roast beef sandwhich, and the NFL draft. I often work while fiftychatting too. its a great gig.

I'll pop open a beer, since they're stashed in the dairy cooler where I work at.

officially im a fixer upper of computers.
what i really do is avoid a life sentance for killing off the dregs of humanity.
when hidden from prying eyes i either lurk and post here, or better still, do my PBEM turns.
its SOO good to work at the System Department.
you get to do all those quasi legal/ethical things and get away with them.

5 am - 9 am

Sign my name on deliveries and checks then yell and scream at workers to move this there and there here. Then I leave orders for the rest of day. Then I head over to a different job site and do the same thing.

10am - 10pm

Draft blue prints, order materials, write pay checks, write other checks, fill out invoices, draft blue prints, CFC, lunch, phone calls, faxes, down loading, uploading, calculations of wind shear loads and vertical weight loads, calculations of materials needed, CFC, dinner, TV, CFC, More phone calls, visits to future sites to measure, pitch bids on jobs, study material catalouges, and mountains of mundane paper work. Not all in that order. On occasion I go to the proving grounds to test out structure design against ballistics and explosives.

Do you get to administer said ballistics and explosives?

I have to say my job (that I no longer have, being moved away from that town, but I might go back for the summer) as a banquet captain at a fancy restaurant was thoroughly awesome. It featured:

  • Wages that ranged between $20 and $40 an hour.
  • Free golf at an extremely nice course (normally about $150 to golf there)
  • Free fancy food ALL THE FRIGGEN TIME
  • TONS of breaks due to the nature of the job and my deviousness. Regularly went 4hrs+ without working on the clock.
  • Work with MANY of the hottest girls in my area.
  • Learn how to BS knowledge on stuff like wine.
  • Get all sorts of freebees (e.g. ~20 bottles of various mid to high-end wines leftover from a wine tasting.
  • Get to look slick as hell (tuxedo to work yay!)
  • Get to boss people around
  • Learn about food from a classically trained French chef.
  • when guests aren't around had flat screen TVs and an awesome soundsystem for music/tv while resetting
  • Get to see at least 100 weddings, really got to see first hand what works and what doesn't.
  • The course owners and the executive chef loved me, which means I was immune to being messed with.
  • Keys to the cart shed = after hours fun

Pretty sweet! Although I will add that downtown's ability to be on #fiftychat while working might be better then all mine combined.

Most of them. Some times I even get to use my personal carry firearm. The blow up stuff I do get to flip the switch. Some things like the 2x4 shooter I can't do since its in a calibrated lab. Its all over seen by Army personal and FBI,ATF agents.

I hand out samples of cinammon-roasted nuts in a small kiosk in the mall. So there are no times when there isn't either a manager or customer present. Oh well.

My job consists of basically masking my contempt for the ...... >snip<.... while I fantasize about a life that doesn't so closely resemble Hell.

I was quoting Lester Burnham from American Beauty

Anyways, what do I do at work? I'm a Litigation Executive in a Personal Injury Law Firm. I get the little guy as much money as possible for being injured as a result of an accident that wasn't their fault. We're only a small firm having left a much larger one and in the future we hope to do other stuff too.

When I'm bored I'm either on the internet or chatting **** with the Boss.

When I work :

  • Receive client calls and make quotations
  • Receive clients P.O. and ship out compressors and/or parts
  • Browse the net for legal tenders
  • Receive old compressor bodies and make so they are run through the remanufacturing process
  • Make cold calls to clients in the United States
  • Make follow-up call to clients in the United States
  • Drink coffee

When I don't work :

  • Browse CFC
  • Look for interesting walkthrough on Final fantasy VII
  • Smoke cigarettes
  • Go bother the guys working for the electric motor company
  • Go speak the the cute receptionist while pooring a coffee

I'm a inside salesman for a remanufaturer of refrigeration compressors

Income taxes
Business taxes
Business auditing
Browsing CFC every once i a while
Drinkin cofee
Fooling around with Julie the cute technician.

During the day, I process orders for the stuff we manufacture, from taking the orders over the phone to sending the slips out to the floor to doing up shipping labels and sending the stuff out the door. I answer phones and deal with returns, product inquiries, and I order office and garage supplies. I built and maintain our website, I list things on ebay, and I help my clueless boss manage his ebay addiction. I design and place all our advertisements, I schedule customers' appointments, and I bill out all the crap we do and sell. I lurk and post on CFC when the workload's light, and I go out in the shop and cut and weld up our parts when the workload's heavy.

I start tending bar next week. I suspect that that will be a lot more interesting than my day job.

Im a cashier at home depot and i have to say, it sucks big time.

We work 9 hours a day, however 1 of those hours is a lunchbreak. And we have to request our days off 3 weeks in advance.

How the hell can you plan most things 3 weeks in advance?

Right now I am going to be unemployed. I've compleated my required hours that I have done for my Internship.
