What First Brought You Here?

I was trying to find tips and advice about Civilization III, which I had just purchased.

I wanted to do some Civ 4 modding. Which I did do, anyways. Anyways, I get the feeling many of the current veterans of CFC were from the Civ3 and Civ4 camps.

Of course, at the time, I was a stupid young teenager, and internet arguments draw in teenagers like honey draws flies, so that's how I came to CFC.

Well my first encounter with the Civilization series was the Playstation version of Civ2, but I guess I'm still part of the Civ3 camp since it was Civ3 that brought me here.

Yeah, when it say civ3 and cov4 camps I mean the game that brought you to CFC or what not. I played civ3 since I was a kid, for a few years before I even thought about lurking on CFC.

Came for the game (Civ III); stayed for the "SJW"/"MRA" slugfests.

I was thinking Civ III but I guess really it was II, though maybe like JR I didn't actually join until I got III. Then I left for a splinter, then I came back when the splinter morphed into a smaller version of here, because y'all have more folks. But now I mostly just stick to CFB . . .

This site was important to me. It's where I learned the internet, and that it was okay to let other people be wrong. And I still end lots of my sentences with ellipses, everywhere I go . . .

I actually come to CFC through OT. Kinda. At one czech forum that I was visiting, Winner once made comment in style of "Lol, this debate is nearly as bad as the one that is going on on civfanatics". I checked it out, noticed this forum and some time after, when i was looking for materials about upcoming Civ IV, i remembered that there is actually a whole forum dedicated to this franchise and I stayed here. But it take me some time to gather tthe courage to visit the OT, tbh.

Hmm. If I recall correctly, I first came here to see if anyone had an actual use for a navy in Civ III - a use that justified its cost that is. The answer was no.

I was brought here for modding Civ 4. My account went dormant later. Later, somewhere in 2010 I made an inventarisation of all the accounts I made on the web so far, checked OT out of curiosity, and that's where I am now.

Civ1 or 2, can't remember - it was too long ago. I was an internet nerd before it was popular! (<-- actual truth) Yes I am that old.

Valka, dunno about your Trek avatar(s) but your CFC one is da bomb.

Thank you! :D

I know I'm not going to win the TV/Media contest (candid photos of actors who are over 65). I have a bare chance of coming in 3rd, maybe 4th.

I've got a very slim lead for the "Green is the Color" one, though. Here's my entry:

Civ3 and I can't remember why. I think I just searching for websites about my favorite topics back then. I found the discussion in the civ3 section really fun to read. I also liked how much it upped my game.

I'm not sure if I ventured here when I played civ3, I did try out some mods back then, but I'm not sure where did I get them from. But I think I did came here a couple of times. I wasn't an internets person back then, I didn't even own a PC (played at my cousins), so I might have just as well been here several times and didn't actually pay attention as to where I was.

The first "actual" memories of CFC are of me looking once again for mods for civ4 when I finally decided to get a PC (a turning point in my life, for better or for worse ), once BTS was already out. First mods, then gradually looking for tips etc. It took me a while before I figured that I actually could register and ask stuff MYSELF instead. Didn't actually venture off of civ4 and mods download section at that time plus a while after registration.
Gradually started to be more active, found off-topic and the crazy fact that there are actually people who live in off-topic section, never even posting in game sections and even those who don't even play the game anymore. Then I got addicted to off-topic myself for a while until my CFC hype died out and I switched to resurfacing for a while once an expansion or game is announced and released.

There is just something I cannot explain about the atmosphere and community here that is... just... right. So much more than gaming forum. When I tried other forums not related to civ, it just wasn't right, even though civ doesn't have anything to do with topics at hand, they just weren't the same. It is as if I only cared for post or conversations of/with people that appreciate civ. :dunno:
Not sure if anyone understands me on this. My friends etc. are puzzled once in a while, as to why I spend so much time here, saying I really am a "fanatic", and what is it with CFC that I bother visiting. They just don't know.
