We all obviously have differing opinions on the current situation on the ME. But...where do things go from here?

*edit: Meant this to be a poll, oh well.

Do you think a cease fire will happen? Will Israel destroy Hezbollah? Will Syria, Iran, US, or some other nation get dragged into it? Something far worse, like WWIII?

In my person opinion, no where good. Hezbollah aren't simply going to "stop" because they're being pounded by Israel, even if you wipe out 99% of them, the ideal lives on for them and Israel sure ain't gonna stop doing what it feels it needs to do to protect itself simply because the international community are getting on their backs. Syria are gonna sit on the sidelines and moan about it IMHO, they aren't gonna try anything. the main problem is Iran, but they won't do anything openly because they're worried about the general international community, so they'll supply arms to the terrorists (yes some people'll call them freedom fighters or insurgents, to me they're terrorists, sorry but it's my opinion) and try to weaken Israel that way

IMHO.

Yeah I was watching the Omen 666 remake in the cinema the other day. They said they need to go to Jerusalem to get some holy weapons, and the the flag of Israel flashed on the screen and I yelled lol, Israel and started to laugh out loud like a maniac. Quite disturbing might I say.

IMO the Antichrist will rise and kill us all. Now if I only believed in religion. Oh well.

What happens next: the usual Middle Eastern stalemate - Israel uses all its military might (exc. nukes) to crush "terrorist" organisations, battle drags on for 2-20 years, terrorists still survives. Meanwhile Syria, Iran, US etc are drag into the conflict. All sides achieve little except for slaughter of civilians and economic ruin, eventually deciding on a ceasefire. A bad peace follows. 3 years and 30 peace plans afterwards, all-out war resumes...

Everyone who sais WW3, probably has no idea what a world war realy is.

I think we are looking at a major regional conflict somewhere in the next 10 years. Something like 73' with other players in it.

Judging by how well the first UNIFIL, second UNIFIL, UNRWA and International peacekeeping mission to Israel-Egypt went along, unless they come armed and willing to use their weapons - it will be as significant to history as the fly on Alanis Morrisette's chardone - yet another pointless line in a misunderstood song.

I agree, but not because NATO is sending troops. Hezbollah has even less reason to fear a token NATO force than it does the Israeli army. The NATO forces will be ignored by both sides in the conflict, a few of them will be killed, and then they'll be withdrawn. Thats about it.

Its a turning point for the ME because this crisis is buying time for Iran to acquire nuclear weapons. Once that happens, all bets are off.

I assume you mean in self defense. Since when does the UN use it's weapons offensively. This is not the charter of the UN. It's job is to separate to enemy combatants from killing each other and innocent civilians.

Some sort of cease-fire or unstable peace, then it will escalate, then a lot of people die, then there will be some sort of cease-fire .... etc etc etc

Iran aquiring nukes is probably the only thing that could stabilize the region, the cold war showed pretty clearly that nuclear countries are very reluctant to attack eachother.

Of course I trust Iran and Israel alot less than the USA and the USSR. Still it's either that or the current situation going on forever.
