What have you repaired lately?

What the hell is that?

I am doing a lot of unnecesary "repairings" to my 2009 Opel GT. Changing all fluids when they still fine, thermostat just in case, whole brake sets because I want sportier ones, replacing OEM radio with an android unit, painting and sealing soft roof so it will last forever...
I spend much more time fixing than driving it, it is just more fun...

I repaired my living room by replacing the ceiling fan/light fixture thing that no longer worked to illuminate the room but still whacked my hands fairly regularly with a regular light fixture that I don't hit when I stretch or put on a sweatshirt. The old one had three separate switches - one for the fan, an on/off switch for the light, and a separate dimmer switch for the light. The box was a little crowded with wires, but I remembered to pay attention to which were the fan wires and which were the light wires when I took down the old fixture. Doing this mostly by flashlight made it extra special fun, as did discovering that the "living room" marked in my breaker box is actually not the living room.

Yesterday I removed an old, broken thermostat (the furnace wouldn't turn on) and put in a new one. It is programmable, but I haven't bothered to program it yet. I also replaced a bunch of burned-out light bulbs, but that is rather pushing the limits of "repaired."

I had a scrambled egg for breakfast this morning (with scallions and peppers) but when I tried to reassemble the shell, it was beyond repair. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. :(

Replaced the on-demand hot-water heater for the first-floor shower. :whew:
Revarnished the bamboo floor of my master-bedroom balcony. We're planning on transferring the "house" of Mouse and Easy to there from the street-side balcony.

My washing machine has been vibrating itself to death and walking all over the floor. Repair guy says that this is common with front loader machines which are not on solid concrete floors. Because they tend to vibrate, and then set up a vibration in the floor, which adds together and makes everything bounce.

The location of this machine has a crawl space beneath it. So the floor is not concrete solid. The suggestion was to put anti vibration pads beneeath the legs of the machine.

And then put the drier back in place.

Let us talk of my pathetic back yard.

I had originally envisioned a lawn, suitable for croquet among the coconut trees. :shake: Nope, there is too much shade for grass to grow. All I got were swampy mud puddles.

I don't remember why, but on the west end we have a drainage pipe running under the wall. Thus I constructed a network of perforated PVC pipes to take rainwater to this drainage pipe. Over these pipes, we laid down a layer of coconut-sized rocks, and over these rock, we have a layer of sand. The drainage works wonderfully. :cooool: It takes a prolonged downpour for us to get even temporary puddles. This gives my five dogs a place to poop. :whew:

Over the years, the sand had gotten thinner and thinner. This problem was recently repaired by bringing in 2 cubits of fresh sand and replenishing the sand layer. :yup:

I would suspect that your perforated pipes are filled with sand. Perhaps a layer of "weed cloth" between the sand and the rocks would keep more of the sand from washing into the pipes.

1. Go to Amazon and buy a wand (the kind used in the Harry Potter movies).

2. The correct spell to use is Reparo. (point your wand at the egg shell; refer to the Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone movie for the correct pronunciation; there are clips on YouTube).

3. If this works on Harry's glasses, it should work on eggshells. :yup:

As for what I repaired lately... I put a fresh battery in my wall clock yesterday.

Changed a ceiling LED light.
Previous one stopped working, I changed the broken pieces, but did not work, so bought a new one and changed it.
