What have you repaired lately?

One of the side bits of my glasses came off a couple of days ago so I stuck it back on with superglue. Which is about the limit of my practical skills.

Humidifier! I don’t know if I could go so far as to call it a repair but I took it apart and replaced the filter inside.

The thing is about the size of a desktop PC from the late ‘90s. I got it secondhand years ago for just a few bucks—retail price runs around $300. Just the filter itself was almost 20 bucks!

It’s called a “five season filter” but reading the instruction manual says one season is six months. I guess calling it a 30-month filter would be too confusing for some people?

I adjusted the positioning of my tv antenna to increase reception after it took a mysterious nose dive a few weeks back.

Thankfully, I have cable television. I don't have any cable channels, but the wiring in the building and my cable box allow me to get the basic stations. Cable TV in this country also largely is junk, by the way. Anyway, I've never had a digital antenna I've been satisfied with. At least when television was still analog, you could get a picture and sound even if it came through weird.

You might have benefited from an amplifier. I find that a good amplifier makes a huge difference in what you can receive, along with good antenna placement.

Where I live now, I had to buy a rather large indoor/outdoor antenna (with an amplifier) to get anything at all due to having almost no view of the sky.

I upgraded my antenna to one that comes with an amplifier last year after one of the local stations moved their broadcasting antenna too far away. Now I've got that channel again, as well as a few more I hadn't had. It still isn't perfect, though, as due to where I live the antenna is slightly below ground level. But it's good enough for the few times a year I watch live sports on over-the-air TV.

I also need to repair the other wobbly foot on the towel-stand
Done this now, too.

Quick, someone break something else!

A friend of mine has an aquarium, and trouble with their reef LED light. And I was with another friend recently, and asked him to show me (on his) how the repair needs to be done. So ... dismantling and remantling an example of the problem light. We'll see!

We's gots window problems.
A dining room window went to the window doctor. :health: The metal frames has been done in by rust and must be replaced. :hammer:
My driver is off to Jagna to buy epoxy. Rain has been making it way between the widow frames and wall in the tv room. Another storm is on the way.

Wouldn't call it a repair but I've been cutting down trees that have enveloped the house, insurance company is upset with the fire hazards. Got 3 chainsaws going, 1 gas (Stihl) and 2 electric (Worx and Sunjoe polesaw). I had to sharpen 2 of them already and the polesaw was damaged so I had to bend the tightening screw and dowel pin.

Ha! A kitchen sink faucet!

Here's how I "repaired" it. Hot water tap was dripping. Went to insert the new cartridge that the manufacturer sent me. Couldn't get the faucet handle removed. Corrosion, hard water. Thought I could remove the entire valve from below. The locking nut holding that in place was frozen. Couldn't get any tool in from under the sink basin to get any mechanical advantage. Looked on the internet for help. Asked on CFC for help. Tried Liquid Wrench, blowdryer, tapping. Went to a plumbing supply shop. They were willing to sell me a basin wrench for $50. Didn't want to spend that on a tool I might only use this once.

Got an inspiration: remove the whole sink. Then I can get a tool in place to unlock that d*** nut. Removed the sink. Still couldn't get any mechanical advantage on the nut. Notice sink itself is corroded.

Bought a new sink. Bought a new faucet. Installed new faucet in sink. Installed new sink.

Voila! I've repaired my dripping hot water tap!

Sounds like Murphy was helping

since when has a window frame been rustable?

Guessing about the 50s, looking around here.

One of the arms on mine finally gave way where it connects to the frame. Fortunately I have a couple extras around so I swapped it out for another arm. Had to get the old man magnifiers out for that tiny screw.

Paper shredder. (A penny had fallen into it--and was nearly a third sawn through!}

Security camera wiring.
