what is the history behind ur CFC name?

Hedgehog is just one of many... I was called "The guy with a thousend names".

The headpiece of my current avatar kinda resembles the spikey little creature.

I wish I had a colorful, anecdotal story about how I derived at my handle, but the truth is that I wanted to have a nick that I could use on multiple BBS's that was unusual, but not too bizarre.

The name comes mostly from the fact that I was playing a game (not Civ 3) where I was prompted to give a name to my character. Being in a grumpy mood at the time (and having issues with the game I was playing) I chose to name my character "Captain Cantankerous". I then used the same name (sans the "captain") when I logged onto that game's BBS forum for the first time.

So that's my story.

I also have a tendency to ramble... :ack:

mine is the simplest one imaginable, the boring old:

initials/graduation date

but the name has taken a life of its own, so its not too bad

Used to be S1m0ne from the movie S1m0ne which was the only thing I could think of when I registered. But got TF to change it to Sim_One, which looks better and easier to spell. :goodjob:

from a radio station ID

"... the ultimate sexual accesory, the furry spatula"

i grabbed that name 5 years ago now, and well it kinda stuck. People usualy just assumed i got it from a story that involved leaving dishes in the kitchen sink for a bit too long.

when I first came to this site I saw a guy named Vladimir_Illyich_Lenin, some of you might still know him, so I was like: aha, so you're proud of your history hm? (I assumed he was Russian, turned out to be Canadian I think) So I decided to use the name of our national hero and freedomfighter, Willem van Oranje. Easy hm?

A good choice :goodjob:

Sultan Bhargash was the Omani ruler of the Indian ocean islands of Zanzibar and Pemba who, backed by the British, brought electricity, telephone service, and a small railroad to the island in the 1860-70s. He also built several small palaces (one of which was the tallest building in sub-Saharan Africa through the 1960s) and Persian baths and I'd like to think he was up for a good time all the time.

I chose the name because I spent much of the year 2000 in Zanzibar and really came to love the place. When Civ 3 came out I made a "Swahili" civ up with the crumby editor and posted it to this forum - Sultan Bhargash was the leader of that civ and I picked it for my name.

Thanks for asking...

The origins of my name are as of yet unknown. On one hand it could be "Oh well, another day" or something like that. On the other, it could be something from my deranged mind. But most probable is that it is from........

Its what everyone calls me.

I use this name for a lot of things online, but I used to be active in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) and that's what I called myself.
