Well at the very least the UWA,.

Dr Lomborg, who first gained worldwide attention a decade ago when he argued that other development problems were more pressing than global warming, also said there had been "grossly misinformed attacks" on his Copenhagen Consensus Centre, on which the Australian centre would have been based.

He said the Copenhagen centre had been recognised globally as a top think tank because of a decade of work conducted by more than 100 top economists including seven Nobel-laureate economists. He said many Australians had misunderstood his work.

"Some Australian activists have called me a climate change heretic. As one of the globe's most vocal proponents for much more money to be spent on R&D into green energy to solve global warming, I find this bizarre," Dr Lomborg said.

"There have been reports that we are setting up an Australian "climate change" centre, which is plain wrong: Australia Consensus will focus on economic and development policy.

"I am committed to building Australia Consensus into a world-leading research centre. I am looking forward to working with Australian researchers, civil society, and politicians from both sides of the aisle to create research that will help the world to better deal with its most pressing problems.

"This is far too important to let fall victim to toxic politics."

Just because he doesn't believe climate change is the most pressing issue, he is a heretic to those who oppose him. Who would have thought that a university would oppose different thinking.

I'm confused. Who is doing the opposing?

And then after a heated 341 post discussion it was realized that Classical Hero never returned to his own thread.

Visionaries from a decade ago will only be understood a decade or two in the future, because:

What's the opposite of success? Blow-cess.

Btw, nothing succeeds like a parrot with no teeth.

Nope. None of that works terribly well.

Let me think for a bit.

How very dare UWA protect its reputation like this and not give 4 million dollars to an inveterate liar. How *very* dare they.

There's also the bit where this was proposed and funded directly from the Prime Minister's office instead of coming through the Australian Research Council or any sort of peer review or competitive tender process.

What is the opposite of a loo? An igloo.

I am gonna have to ask for a dunce hat for a moment, my mind isn't processing this one. Opposite of A, I guess could be an I, but where does the G come from? Ool A doesn't make much sense either. Can someone explain the joke

The "ig" in "igloo" is there being taken as equivalent to the "ig" in "ignoble," the opposite of "noble."

When I looked up the etymology of "ignoble," I found that it comes from the prefix of negation "in-" combined with the Old Latin word "gnobilis," which by the time of Classical Latin had shifted to "nobilis." The "g" was not part of the negation, but is simply a vestige that remained in the antonym after being dropped from the original word.

Really, university is not the oppositive of diversity ; it's half of it.

Well at the very least the UWA,.

Hm. So academics are human. Who'd have thought?

You're right though: the opposite of diversitas is universitas. ;)

A-gent is the opposite of a gent? Possibly. But what's the opposite of a gentleman?

I could think of so many infraction-worthy answers to that.

Dunno. How far back do you want to go? The opposite of a gentilhomme is a villein, I think.
