No it's a fact. We have the GPS data that shows the precise location of the drone when it was shot down. It shows the drone was clearly not in Iranian airspace.
Even if we didn't have that GPS data, the Iranian regime is inherently dishonest and nothing they say can be believed. So any evidence they produce to back their claim should immediately be assumed to be falsified.

It's just not a thing here, really. We're too far removed and there are no adversaries with trans-pacific or trans-polar drones to show up on our doorstep yet. I wouldn't be surprised if there were cartel drones or errant Canadian toys or whatever but we do not have defense systems to spot and shoot them down as they're too small. A transcontinental drone would be another story as that would be plane sized but no one else has that reach.
The US is researching anti-drone systems (I got to see some demo'd, cool stuff) but they are not operational and are intended for deployment at forward bases overseas, not domestically.
Who's the 'we' in the 'we have GPS data'? The US government? Because they never lie?
Also, people I work with spoof GPS data (broadcast fake data which is recorded by receivers) on a daily basis. It is in this instance literal rocket science but not figurative rocket science. There are catalogues of parts for this stuff which means the data can be trivially forged.

If it was someone like Matiss or McMasters I would have no problem with the honesty and integrity of any such claims But not from Bolton, Trump or Sanders

it's just Donald Trump is kind of the guy who prefers to show his great valor on those who can't fight back . As it didn't happen but he can't let his voterbase to discover , say , just say , ı can't talk about kitties right now as CIA might come and poison them . GPS jamming can set off people with cellphones miss streets these days . To be fair public mood was different at W time. W could go ahead with wars and win elections .9/11 was milked yugely by that administration.

I find it difficult to take seriously a country that shot down a civilian plane full

Considering that Iran (and others) have territorial claims in the Gulf that US doesn't recognise I suspect that both sides were trying to prove a point, the US by sending their drone into an area that Iran claims, and Iran by shooting it down in an area it claims but it knows the US doesn't recognise its claim to.

a, dubiously legal/illegal, contest with a grouse shooting club.

paint loads, and the shooters would try to shoot them down.
What happened was that if the model aeroplanes were too high,
they were out of range of the pellets, but couldn't bomb the shooters.
If they came down too low, they were generally shot down.
Perhaps shooting down drones should be an Olympic sport.
