There are always those willing to put their personal well being above the greater good, and let primitive desires such as greed and lust take over. There are always those seeking to destroy those who wish to do good. We will look upon the Soviet Constitution (1977) as one of the most, if not the most liberal and freedom-bestowing documents of all time; befitting a socialist ideal.

But there were those unwilling to adhere to it, and those willing to twist its meaning and distort it into something it was not.

Had it followed its own constitution, even the earlier variants, and had Stalin, Lenin, and others not so readily abandoned the socialist cause, the Soviet Union could have been the greatest nation we have ever seen. Instead, it is nothing more than a memory, a thing for Westerners to demonize, and Easterners to lament the plight of.

What good is the common good if it means self-immolation? A person's desire to better him/herself is our greatest strength. It is the reason we have great scientists, artists, innovators, craftsmen, and merchants.

As soon as you accept our defining quality as our greatest weakness, any hapless ideology seems appropriate. Contradictions lead to any conclusion.

As thread starter I explicitly forbid this from turning into theism vs. atheism thread #4435343!

Moderator Action: The thread is about what kind of atheism a giver person indulges. theism, any of it's forms or how correct it is is not an issue here. besides, we have enough topics on that as it is. Please keep on topic.

I believe that it is that which you label as our defining quality is one of the main sources, if not the main source, of much of the world's misery and suffering, and when we as a society and as a species mature to the point of putting the collective good above our own individual selves, while at the same time striving to maintain personal integrities and freedoms, negative influences like war, poverty, and famine will cease to exist.

I'm not answering that, because your posts are all based on Ignorance, and I can't tell whether your really serious or your just trying to make fun of youself.

Fox, you are hilarious.

 x 100,000

The level of ignorance from your posts is that I would expect to see from
a kid of about 12 years. I only hope your statements are meant as some
kind of humour...Although I suspect the worst - That you are serious...

I will let you off with this, because I assume you are young
and have little experience of the world...You will learn, I hope.

People like you are the main reason I am an atheist...

:)

Why waste the stupendous awe on imaginary anthropomorphic characters when you can cut the middleman and direct it at the raw material universe?

Awesome, dude! :goodjob:

If the poll were multiple-choice, I'd take the first and third options. I call it revisable atheism.

I believe that there is definitely no god

- I think there is no god, in the sense of God being an all powerfull being that created the universe. There may be 'god' type beings, there is no possiable way for me to know this, but no God in the sense of a creator. I do not think that could possiably be the case.

@Fifty: are you reffering to "God" as the religions, Bibles, Q'urans, etc..., percieve it? If so, ARE YOU KIDDING? First option.

I don't believe in God, and in my opinion, God does not exist. I also believe there is sufficient evidence to conclude that God is not necessary as (i) the creator of the universe or (ii) the absolute judge of abstract concepts such as "Good" and "Bad", and ideas merely products of ignorance. Of course, I believe that God as presented in Religious books written by man (such as the Bible) does not exist.
