But then, we cannot prove that anything but our own selves exists outside our minds. ;)

I know. But from my expierences/others-people's-stories, that's my conclusion.

Quite right. It just had to be said.

The first two poll options are the same thing.
No, the second option does not completely rule out the existance of a higher being.

Faith is for those who cannot find an explanation for their need to follow a god.

Having no psychologically unstable desire to believe in the unseen, I thus need no 'faith'.

.

Doesn't the assertion that there is DEFINITELY no God involve a measure--however small--of faith?

The term definitely would indicate "absolutely without any possibility whatsoever". Now unless you can show (similarly to what newfangle is proposing) that the concept of God is logically impossible, wouldn't the assertion that there is absolutely no possibility whatsoever of their being a God involve a measure of belief (or faith) in your assertion being true since you havn't proven it yet, and since faith is belief without evidence or proof?

I realize that (insert a few lines of verse about how faith is a psychological disorder and how you are your own man, etc.) so please don't say as such... I'd like to hear your specific stance on the above concepts. I'm not equating you to a religious person, or saying that your faith is religious, I'm just saying that without logical, physical, or philosophical disproof of the concept of God, wouldn't the assertion that God DEFINITELY does not exist involve a measure of faith? And if you do have logical, physical, or philosophical disproof of the concept of God, I really hope you'd share it with me, because it would be great to bust out in a pseudo-debate I've been having for awhile with a creationist!

Also, if one does not beleive in God, one must either posit an alternative hypothesis to explain the existence of the universe, or else give up on the question. These alternative hypotheses may require as much faith as God, and giving up on the question is lazy.

Poor Fox seems to be confusing himself here.

You also do not know if there is an answer to the cosmos, hence why you have
allowed a human-made theology to control your life. All people do not have to
have faith, since some people have the strength of mind to seek out answers
for themselves and not settle for fairy tales and myths handed to them from
greedy organisations built upon half-truths and fear of the unknown.

I don't need faith to not believe in your invisible man, I merely have the fact
at hand that the 'god' concept is an evolved version of the same spirit-myth man
has used to explain death since he hid in caves from sabre-toothed tigers.

All this may be too much for you to take in, so read carefully.

:)

When your hardened shell of arrogance and moral decay is finally collapsed unto the Lord, it will be a glorious example of His Grace and Love. :)

I voted for There is no evidence of god, so I wont believe until there is. Of course this is for the general concept of a deity. There are some gods I just outright deny exists like the christian god is a myth, Zeus is a myth, so is jupiter, Ra, Mirithas, and the various gods of the various religions since they are contradictory and illogical. Everyones an atheist I just believe in one fewer god than you.

I'm not answering that, because your posts are all based on Ignorance, and I can't tell whether your really serious or your just trying to make fun of youself.

You're religious Pasi? Doesn't that contradict your Stalinism?

I dislike Stalin. I prefer a more Platonian-socialism. Just click the link in my sig.

He's admitted to being a stalinist. :hmm:

I have admitted to being a socialist, a communist, and a onetime member of the Party, but never have I endorsed Stalin, nor any of his theories.

COMMY!!!!!! UH WE HAVE A COMMY!!!!!

Talking seriously, we should have more freedom in these forums. But look at the communist stalinist doctrine: it is just leftist facism. My question is why communism, after killing about 100 million people in the gulags and even more around the world is not seen as badly as facism. Things are seriously distorted...

Sorry my bad.

So uh, doesn't being a communist contradict being religious in some way?

No, because the core messages of communism/socialism and Christianity are the same: love and care for your fellow man.
