After seeing a few threads in regards to language. I have decided to construct a poll asking what languages the CFC community speaks and/or writes.

Also in your post, please indicate which is your native tounge and which other language(s) you speak and/or write with. (I made it multichoice for thoes who speak more than one language)

Poll is comming up, so be paitent ;).
Edit: Poll is up. I apologise if I have not listed your language, but I had to work with a poll that only gives me a limited amount of options to put in.

English is my native language, although I can carry on a conversation in French and count in Irish Gaelic.

Native language : Dutch
Fluent : English
Able to read and understand : German
Learning (and making improvement) : Finnish

Bright day
Czech
Slovak
English
und ein bischen Deutsch, et paulum lingua Latina (how do you make long latin letters btw?)

English is my native language
I am able to read Japanese Hiragana and Katakana. I do know only a few Kanjis but oftenly have to rely on their respective Hiragana to know how to say it. however I am learning Japanese (Both in speaking and writing).

I was starting to have a tolerable understanding of French by the end of high school. I can still make some sense out of it when reading it, but I've mostly forgotten it by now.

Native language: Should be Dutch\Portuguese as far as ethnicity concerned, but I can't speak nor write either of them. (Dutch\Portuguese culture is pratically lost in Malaysia).
Now I can speak\write English, Mandarin and Malay. I consider Mandarin as my native language as I have Chinese blood in me.

I'll assume that you mean 'speak (more or less) fluently'.
Yes, you can also include in the language that you are also learning as well :).

Me too, bro.

I love how the French language rolls off the tongue. One sub I had told me that I had the best French accent in my class. I kinda wish I continued learning it.

Fluent speaking and writing in English and Welsh and can speak a little French too (3 years of high school French lessons) and barely some Spanish (1 year of high school Spanish lessons). Actually I had those French and Spanish lessons in (through) Welsh.

Native Language: English, Polish?
Fluent: English, Polish

Am able to read and write: English, Spanish, Latin?

I can't read Polish though... (wait.. that means I'm illiterate! )

Superfluent English and Norwegian.
I get by in German, Swedish, Danish.
I can read and pronounce, but not speak, Dutch and Afrikaans.
I can usually get the sense of a basic text in most West European languages, and Latin.

Programming languages: (thanks Steph!)
Basic, but strong, Java skills
Some Brainf*** experience
Half a year of write-in Lisp courses
And, of course, BASIC, which most people do at some point, and now I shudder in revulsion.

Mother language : French
Fluent in English, as I'm using it very often for my job

Fluent in C++ (I'm using it everyday for my job), fluent in C# (I'm using it when I'm working on SSS, albeit not as often as I'd like).

I studied a bit of German, but I've forgotten almost everything

Bilingual in English and German.
Completely out of practice in Spanish, but the basic gramattical knowledge is still there, vocabulary is mostly lacking.
Can read and write Latin, and understand when spoken by someone else (one of my profs can actually do this).
Can read Ancient Greek (voted Greek on the poll).

In the near future, I'd like to polish up my Spanish and then learn the modern version of one my ancient languages, i.e. either Italian or modern Greek. Can't be bothered to learn anything which is completely new or sounds stupid (i.e. French). ;)

EDIT: @Fifty: Wow, I'm impressed with what a linguist you are! What languages do you speak which aren't on the poll?

Someone had to bring up computer "languages". :nono: IMO, a language is a medium used to communicate. Compy "languages" are just one-way commands.
